I’m wondering what they told dudesky yesterday when he talked to them…

hey mrpuppy, i noticed you said how you found out unofficially, before your acceptance even came, through oasis. about how long after handing in your transcript did you find out unofficially that you got in??

have any of you guys spoken with Regional Counselor Cathy Chen? And if so how helpful was she? This is the first time i am going to contact my regional counselor and i am not totally sure what to ask or say…

Technics, when i speak to my reg. coun. do i just straight up ask if she can give me an idea of my chances and how long it will take to find out? I’m just a little worried because i have no legitimate NEED to know response right now… just curious if you can tell me how you went about asking your counselor

Once i was accepted i did the pre orientation homework even though i didnt’ send in my deposit yet. for some reason the site let me sign up for orientation and get an email address. the only bad thing was that when i went to orientation on a couple of weeks ago i couldn’t sign up for classes b/c my deposit hadn’t gone through yet.
good luck to all those still waiting and congrats to everyone thats been accepted!!

It took me two days to know unofficially, SM… I had dropped off my transcripts Wednesday afternoon then got an email from Financial Aid to check my account on Friday. So, by then it was looking good… the following Monday morning when I checked Oasis all of my stuff had been propagated over into STARS… so I knew it was just a matter of time before I saw a letter in the mail. Hope that helps.

Lex, when were you able to register for classes? Did you just keep trying until you could register or did they list a date for you in Oasis… I’m a little scared my deposit won’t make it there before the 11th… heh… irrational fear I know, but I’d hate to get there and be told I can’t register. Ahhh… F’it I guess I can just bring my check book and pay another deposit. Sure it’s $300, but it’s being deducted from tuition anyway… if I have a $600 credit it’s not like I won’t use it…

How did you guys all pay for orientation? Credit card?

coolblue, what I did was more with the viterbi people - I never really spoke with the regional counselor at all. but if I were you, i would tell her and impress upon her that time is of the essence, and that you are very interested in attending and that you want to expedite the process as much as possible.

dude regional counselors are sooooo much more helpful than the regular ones you wait 10 hours to speak to. i wish i started talking to my reg. couns. sooner.

whatd she say?

I agree. I called this morning and they finally said they had made a decision and I should hear no later than the middle of next week. They said I absolutely could not find out over the phone no matter the circumstances. So we’ll see!

i spoke to her yesterday and the convo went something like this:

i told her i faxed in my transcript and asked her if she received it and she said yes. i told her how im confident about my grades (3.93 cumulative gpa) and told her how my only real concern was not having my english req fulfilled. i told her my sit. how i have 2quarters done up to 1B. she said exactly this: “as long as you’ve completed english 1B and/or 1C then you’ve fulfilled the english req.” so im like ok that’s freakin awesome. and this is exactly what she said after: there was a moment of silence on the phone and shes like wow your gpa is pretty high. shes like “ya if you had a 2.7 then we’d have a totally different conversation, but don’t worry.” that’s what she said verbatim. so i just asked her how much longer it’ll be. she said within the next two weeks i would know.

so im fine with the english req and obviously the math (business calc), and my grades are pretty good. i just wanna freakin get in already so i can sleep at nights. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

you applied to marshall? or econ? because you don’t NEED business calc to get accepted into econ. I think i’m probably gonna take Business Math at UConn (equivilant to Math-117 at USC) which is a pre-requisite for MATH-118x (business calc).

and what’s 1B and 1C?

kingjames, i applied to econ. in the college of letters and sciences and arts and w/e. i know i don’t need business calc for admission, however, it does help make my app look better because i have finished all 3 of my lower division requirements as a result of taking it. for the math lower div req for the econ BA major, you can take either up to calc 2 or business calc (USC will accept either one). it says in the usc transfer pamphlet how lower div reqs are not required for admission, but do help in increasing one’s chances in a competitive applicant pool. (something along those lines).

anyway, 1B and 1C are the english classes offered at ucr. dont worry bout that. in your case just worry about completing 2 full semesters of english (not counting remedial english classes). seriously dude, once your english req is complete, as long as all your other grades are good, you have a very good shot. just remember that. your still applying next year right?

yup, definitely going to apply. my only problem right now is the english req. i kept trying to contact my regional representative, but she hasn’t returned my emails or anything. I’m not sure which of these UConn courses would qualify as “english composition”…

<a href=“Undergraduate Course Directory | Undergraduate Catalog”>Undergraduate Course Directory | Undergraduate Catalog;

^^there are the english classes and the course descriptions. I’ll be taking english 110 in the fall, i just don’t know what to take in the spring…hell, i don’t even know if 110 qualifies as composition. keep in mind that english 105+109 aren’t offered anymore even though they’re listed there.

it’s really frustrating because you would think a huge school like UConn of all places would offer english composition classes!!!

and community college is not an option. UConn is in the middle of nowhere, meaning the closest CC would be like 30 mins away at BEST. Plus, I don’t have my own car and UConn freshman/juniors cant have cars on campus anyways.

that sucks how 105 and 109 are not offered anymore. those are the exact classes that im very sure would have worked at usc. i think any courses in english writing would work though. as long as it says english composition or writing in the title and it’s not remedial it should work. keep trying to call up your reg. couns. though.

Sex, I think you’re in. And i know how it feels about not knowing. But it’s worth it.

Since getting my gear, there hasn’t been ONE day where someone says randomly “you go to SC, sweet!!”

in example:

today, I went to starbucks. the cute cashier promptly announces “and what would you like, trojan man?”

yesterday, the cashier at a local pasadena pizzeria asked me about usc and said it was awesome.

day before that at another bookstore a senior at 'SC came up to talk to me and gave me the 411 about transferring, and he was so dang friendly.

damn i’m jealous!!! i want in :(

technics whats ur major
