I’m currently a freshman at NYU majoring in Computer Science at CAS. As I never felt 100% sure committing to NYU (as I had always pictured myself having the more “traditional” college experience), I always knew I was going to send in a few transfer apps to keep my options open. I thought that I’d have the opportunity to experience NYU (even if it was during COVID times) which would help me determine whether I actually wanted to transfer or not, however, as I live internationally (and bc of COVID right now) this doesn’t seem to be possible. One of my top choices for transferring is the Com Sci or Com Sci/Business Admin at USC Viterbi. Cost aside, which school is “better” when considering both the academic/job prospects side as well as the student life/college experience side?
Damn, solid options. In terms of CS, apart from where you want to work post-college, both departments are very strong. As I’m sure you’ve heard from other people when asked about this, these schools are vastly different when it comes to daily life. There really is no better or worse, just vastly different experiences, in large part due to the very different campus styles. The best thing you can do is tour, and see if its campus, and the student life that comes with it, is a good fit for you. If you’re looking for an even more in-depth, or reliable trace on life at USC, I’d also suggest reaching out to any friends you have at the school for an actual. If that’s not feasible, you can always use a service like CollegeUncovered .com to talk with an actual student attending USC.
As far as hiring (in finance industry) both would rank about the same … probably easier for a NYU student to place in Tri-state industries (Finance + (GOOG+FB) + startup alley) … USC is probably more geared to West Coast employers … both are solid schools.
You shouldn’t have a problem getting a job with a degree from either school. USC is the more traditional college experience.
