USEM's vs COLA's

I was looking at the College of arts and sciences Advising Seminars and some of them sound very interesting. Plus, they are only 1 credit. Since it is a seminar what is the main difference between the Usem’s and cola’s then? Can I take one of each during my first semester?

cola’s are special i think to the effect of the teacher of the class is also your advisor… they explain it to you at orientation better
there are also lase’s which are run by ugs i think, i took one and i loved it (history of uva - you have class in the dome room, pretty amazing)

What do you mean cola’s are special…like they are for people who are having trouble and need to be advised? I am trying to come up with a nice list of classes before orientation…so, I was thinking of adding one of those.

What is a ugs?

hazelorb is saying that you can only get into a COLA if the professor for that class is your advisor.
