Using Facebook to taunt the family of a dying child

Evil or just mean to the bone? I didn’t think there was much that could shock me these days, but this news story just completely floored me. What happens in a person’s life that can generate this kind of hate? I’m still just shaking my head on this one…

[Parents: Dying Girl Kathleen Edward Taunted By Neighbors In Trenton](<a href=“FOX 2 Detroit”>FOX 2 Detroit)

The neighbor is nuts. She was JUST arrested for trying to run another neighbor over with a car.

"A response to the text did not come quickly enough and it angered Jennifer. "

Good lord. Is this an adult?

What really got me was when the reporter asks her what good comes out of doing this, she leans forward and responds “Personal satisfaction.”

What a creep. And what’s with the spineless husband who puts up with this? The scary thing is that these two jerks are raising kids.

Too bad public stoning isn’t allowed in the United States.

hope she has a nice time in jail
[Woman Who Taunted Kathleen Edward is Arrested, Jennifer Petkov](<a href=“FOX 2 Detroit”>FOX 2 Detroit)

Huntington’s is one of the most horrible, ugly, devastating illnesses there is (one of the characters on Grey’s Anatomy had it last night). This little girl has already lost her mother to it. Too bad it’s not contagious… I’d not be against this little girl spitting on the woman.

^^^^When I was studying diseases in nursing school, I found Huntington’s to be one of the most horrific and thus scary diseases in the human condition. By the time they die, the patients are just exhausted by all of the constant spasms and jerking they endure. Truly hell on earth.

Yes, it is horrible. I’ve seen several people with it and can’t think of another disease that causes so much anguish for the patient and family (especially when some of them watching the loved one suffer know that will be their own fate in life).

“one of the characters on Grey’s Anatomy had it last night”

And Tony Polar, in Valley of the Dolls.

Awful. I’d always heard that it struck people in their prime (e.g. their early forties.) I didn’t realize children could get it.

The other disease that I find frightening is ALS. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed. To face the loss of all movement, the ability to communicate and to eat while the mind remains intact just seems so incredibly cruel.

mimk6 - have to agree, but with ALS, you don’t have the hereditary factor that Huntington’s families face.

^^^^mimk6, I just had the exact same thought. Huntington’s and ALS are just horrible diseases. They always progress to death, and bring absolute misery along the way. Head and neck cancers also scare me (think Roger Ebert), but people can survive those cancers and live productive lives if they are willing.

Wow. I just don’t understand some people.

“The Petkovs have apoligized for their actions , removed the Facebook posts, dismantled the coffin and painted over the truck.”

Wow.

Hmmm, I’m thinking their version of the above events went like this.

“The Bubba family has said “whatever”, shot their 'puter with a BB gun, taken a sledge hammer to the coffin, and brung out the spray paint.”

Apologies in advance to anybody here named Bubba.

As to the original post, it is really distressing to realize how many people are out there that would behave as that woman did. Those are the stories that make the news. I sometimes forget how many good people there are - less newsworthy I guess.

As to the illnesses, my sister has ALS and it is truly a devastating disease. She was diagnosed at 35. A small percentage (10-20%) are familial cases of ALS, so there are indeed heredity issues for many. Families affected with these diseases (as well as any other) go through enough without being burdened with a neighbor like that woman.

This is so incredibly sick. So very hard to fathom adults acting in such a fashion. I was just watching some news videos and AFTER the taunting neighbor “apologized” to cameras (to save her own self from death threats and the backlash from this incident now that it is in the news), said in earshot of the grandmother and father of the dying girl once the cameras stopped rolling after the so called “apology”…“I don’t F-ing care who is dying!”

And apparently before all this happened in the latest incident, there was previously an incident where the threatened family went to court and mediation and the taunting neighbor that time also said she was “sorry.” Yeah, right.

The only saving grace here is that a lot of public attention is showered on the family and there has been an outpouring of support and gifts and rallies and so hopefully some happiness can be had for the little girl. But I’m sure the situation with the neighbor will persist.

^^^ as someone reported upthread… this lady has two children of her own? If she had any sanity, she’d be worried about the safety of her own kids at this point.
