I’m an American citizen currently living in India.I applied to UT Arlington and i have been admitted there within one week of applying.
Anyone else who got in there? What are your opinions about UTA?
Thanks
UTA is a pretty good size school (30k+ enrollment). They have done quite a bit of upgrading over the last 10 years or so but it is still considered a commuter school. The vast majority of the students do not live on campus and they do not have a football team. They have a decent engineering and nursing program but are not known for much more. It’s a okay school but not many students from outside the DFW is going to have UTA on their list.
Indian American, I also got admitted to UT Arlington for Fall 2018 (Computer Science Engineering) within three days of applying as well. Are you planning to attend UTA?
UT Arlington has had an explosion of growth in the last ten years, that is true, and it continues. There are 6 new apartment complexes of student housing as well as dorms. It is becoming a residential college, and as of 2016, 39,714 enrollment. There are many other complexes that were existing that have become student apartments and remodeled. 2 big parking garages being built right now and should open within weeks.
If you are interested in Engineering, Lockheed Martin has a close relationship with UTA. Lockheed has facilities in neighboring Grand Prairie (missiles) and Fort Worth (F-35).
UTA also has this going on. http://www.uta.edu/news/releases/2016/05/SEIR-building-plans.php
Wait, there is more. https://www.uta.edu/news/releases/2016/09/construction-fall-2016.php
Arlington is a very affordable city with lots of entertainment. The Levitt Outdoor Pavilion which hosts free music concerts in the summer through early fall, is walking distance from campus. They have some top names and a lot of neat, original music. Lots of restaurants downtown. And if you need a little more to do, Dallas and Fort Worth are a hop, skip and a jump away.
While it is true that there are many Arlington graduates that attend UTA, (400K residents) they do so because it is a great university that is very affordable.
@IndianAmerican I’m a big advocate for UT Arlington. Why?
- It’s very diverse and inclusive. Most universities claim to be but are truly not. UT Arlington has an Indian American president and large Indian community so you’ll feel right at home.
- UT Arlington is second in the nation for lowest debt. I hate that so many schools are making college less affordable. UT Arlington is actively trying to lower the cost. Who doesn’t like saving money?
- The school is growing in prestige and recognition.
- Arlington, TX is a fun place to go to school. So much to do very close to the school.
@Grainraiser You should definitely do some more research on UT Arlington. They have good programs in more than just engineering and nursing. If not, it wouldn’t be the largest university in North Texas and the fourth largest in Texas. Enrollment has been growing tremendously fast and with quality students from all over Texas … that don’t happen with just two quality programs and DFW students.
A true commuter school, come 5pm on Fridays you wouldnt see a soul anywhere on or near campus til monday morning
