UT Austin 2011/12 Transfer Guide

Austin rules! Where are you coming in from?

I’m a freshman at UTSA and was under CAP but think I may get a 3.1 GPA…So now I’m thinking of trying to apply for Fall '13 transfer as a biochemistry or biology major.

If I get all A’s in my classes the fall semester of sophomore year, then I can get my GPA up to a 3.4, and plan on trying my best to get all A’s for my spring semester as well. I have pretty good high school ecs but plan on joining some clubs next year as well, as well has getting two good recommendations.

I’ve been looking around but couldn’t find much about CONS transfers…but I saw that someone got in with a 3.4 GPA? Does anyone know the stats of accepted CONS transfers?

And would it hurt if I went to community college for my sophomore year? (not because the classes may be easier, but because of economic issues/I’m from Austin…).

Thank you!

There will be a 2012/2013 thread for questions like this sometime soon, but as there is not one currently:

A 3.4 is below average for CNS acceptance but it is not unheard of for someone to get in below average (it is just an average, after all). The average for CNS is somewhere around 3.5+
If you think attending a community college will lead to better performance academically and your end goal is to transfer to UT then that may be the best option. Keep in mind, however, that getting into to UT is one thing - it doesn’t get any easier.

@mnaacd Is the 3.5+ GPA INCLUDING the spring semester of sophomore year? Because if so, I am confident that I can manage that.

Also, can someone please explain to me why some applicants are waiting to turn in their final transcripts so UT can make a final decision? Are they the ones with GPA around 3.4?

@nadia102 not necessarily, my gap as of last semester was 3.87, with this semester’s spring grades it would probably be 3.9 or something. My UT status says they are waiting for my spring grades because I didn’t meet the calculus requirement at the end of last semester. I took calculus II this semester and they would make my admission decision after I send them this semester’s transcript showing I’ve met that requirement. I believe some other people who have less than the 30hours as of last semester also have to send their final transcripts.

my transcript is being sent this thursday with a 3.74. first choice chemical engineering and second choice petroleum engineering

woah my gpa is a 3.74 too and ut is supposed to get my transcript this thursday, but i applied for the college of education. Goodluck @ss6117!

good luck to you too!!

@thegirl

with a 3.7 I don’t think you have anything to worry about getting into education
I hear it’s not too hard to get into that…

which worries me…we need better educators in this world

Found out I got all As today. That puts my freshman GPA at a 3.9. With the indicator courses complete and my ECs, I am confident I will be accepted to McCombs. :)

Feels good man.

Status check:

“Your application for admission is in review.
We have all the items we need to make your admission decision. As soon as yourdecision is made,it’ll be posted on this page andyou’llbe notified by mail.”

Is it too late to apply for housing for fall? I heard it’s really hard to get an apartment on campus, is that correct (A lot of people on the waiting list?)? I really don’t want to live off-campus.

I might be wrong. I want to live in the residence halls, like Jester and Duren.

Sigh… I’m having a really hard time finding a summer apartment at Austin.

i am at Austin right now… i partied, went to a bar with my friends… i really like Austin. now let’s find an apartment…or a dorm!

For all the BIOLOGY majors that got accepted…

What were your extracurricular activities/major-related classes? I’m applying next March but still…

My ec’s will (hopefully) be: college volunteer program at a hospital starting in September, volunteering at a volunteer-run free medical clinic. And then a ton of leadership positions in high school. I was also in the UT FRI Stream in the summer of '10. However, besides FRI, this is all pre-med related (plan on applying for med school)…anything I should try to make me “unique”/more qualified?

As for classes: I’m taking Calc I for the Fall Semester and maybe Calc II in spring, as well as biology for the fall and organic chemistry in the spring.

My GPA, if I get all A’s in the Fall, will be 3.7.

@nadia102

Umm at the time I applied to UT, I only had Chem I completed. I recently finished Biosciences I and BioCalc…so not THAT many major-related classes under my belt. I joined Pre-Med society…had about 75ish hours of volunteer work at the end of the spring semester. I was in most clubs and organizations in high school and held positions in those. I did a lot of UIL junk (science and pretty much all of the math competitions). Although it’s not related to my career or major, I was also an Ambassador at UTSA. Really enhanced my leadership skills and it honed in on serving almost exclusively the school itself. Plus it looked good on my resume ;). So in conclusion lol, I wouldn’t join ONLY major-related clubs and organizations, but a good mix of the ones that promote leadership skills, communicative skills, and social skills. Good luck!

Is anyone able to log in to check their status right now? I think they are updating it to show their decision :)

its stuck at a white blank screen loading

I don’t see why they would update decisions…at this point they might as well wait for spring grades and people who did bad during spring will be rejected, it’s easier than rescinding people a week later after they send in spring grades

its back up…and my app is in review still

damn it ACC needs to finalize grades and send them already!
I already know my grades for all my classes

Hey guys thanks for all the grats I hope your decision went as well.
@BioScienceMajor I love have almost everyday you copy n paste your admission page to this thread i lol’d
@princessluv did i miss the skype thinigie? I finally decided i’m going even if i have to commit financial suicide.
@JeremyStory I recently filled out housing application and I doubt they run out of dorms because jester alone houses 3000 rooms or people if rooms then about 6000 people so no need to worry.
@All Transfer Attemptees I know you guys have either gotten your decision or anxiously waiting I request that we try and help out other people who may go through the same process next year, I know I appreciate the little community that we built through this thread.
@bobbyn I tried to log in and came to this thread to see if any1 else was having problems i doubt it is them making decision because they wouldn’t allow the servers to go offline unless the are looking at who didn’t accept their decision within two weeks of receiving so that they can accommodate more people by revoking offer.
