We’re all in this together guys, don’t forget that
Gotta agree with facts y’all. Wait until June 15th and then cry wolf.
@scientist89 if I may ask what is your gpa?
@remytreat in residence 3.9+ GPA in technical courses. Are you internal or external transfer?
I heard that most engineering internal transfer decisions came out already. Internal transfer to Cockrell is extremely difficult.
I think internal and external transfer decisions for Computer Science in CNS will come out by June 15. One has to compete with other external and internal transfer applicants. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to get admitted to Computer Science.
Good luck to everyone, especially ones applying for transfer admission to CS.
Besides, I externally transferred to UT with a 4.0 GPA 60+ hours last year. I majored in physics because I love it. After being in UT, I found out UT physics teaching was not great, so I decided to apply for internal transfer to chemical engineering. Fortunately, I have been admitted again.
I think not many people who have externally and internally transferred to UT successfully like me.
@marionberries @jumpo69 @TAMU2UTCS
Chemical Engineering is probably the 2nd most competitive major in Cockrell. A 3.9 GPA for external transfer to chemical engineering is not enough. I internally transferred to chemical engineering with a 3.9 GPA, and you may not know that it is much more difficult to get 3.9 at UT than at community college.
@scientist89 What’s the most competitive Engineering major to transfer into?
About internal and external transfer, I would like to have question. Now I apply to transfer to McCom Business school, but in mystatus, my major is " unspecified business". So if I get accepted, do I need to do internal transfer 1 more time? Or I am guaranteed to be in my major later when I finish all the classes of lower level? ( I have 3 classes left )
Thanks guys
@aznhunnielover For internal transfer, it may currently be Mechanical Engineering. Last year, the cutoff for internal transfer to Mechanical Engineering was about 3.95-3.98 GPA.
For external transfer, it may be Biomedical Engineering. However, Petroleum Engineering will take its throne in both external and internal transfer back soon as gas price increases.
@harugaru no, you just have to declare your major later.
@scientist89 how do gas prices have anything to do with that?
@ZiuallahK In 2015-2016, as gas price fell dramatically, the average admitted GPA for Petroleum followed.
On the other hand, chemical engineering has become very competitive
I have a 3.8 with an external transfer @scientist89
What is your major? Last year, when I came to Admission office, someone showed me transfer admission stats. The average admitted for engineering was 3.91
chemical engineering
@remytreat Unless you have unusually outstanding essays and ECs, you have no chance. @marionberries was denied chemical engineering although he had a 3.9 GPA
Wny decisions come out?
@scientist89 that’s quite the extrapolation, friend. to say low oil prices result in lower average GPA among admittants in a college is quite the stretch. Because the price of oil can be so volatile, saying that it affects the admittance of students who are two to three years out of the work place is far from the truth. Sure, the petroleum industry is eventually going to either fall apart or adapt, causing a decline in the amount of people needed in particular parts of the field, but that’s a completely different argument than the blanket statement you made.
Tldr;
That’s baloney
The average admitted GPA for Petroleum Engineering fell in 2016 due to low gas price. I think it will increase this year or next year
