UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

I honestly think they may defer some of us, and wait to see if non autos who have been accepted, accept or decline their admission. Some will probably decline, then they will start accepting more.

Students who met the November 1 priority deadline will receive an admission decision (possibly an admit, deferral to March 1 or denial) no later than February 1 –– some will receive theirs beforehand and some on February 1. More info: admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions

I gotta say, I’m a little disappointed in UT admissions process. I know it can’t be easy in this environment, but I DO believe that NOW is when communication and transparency from Admissions is key to maintaining credibility.

My daughter is waiting on a decision from COFA and had applied by the November 1 “priority” date. She received multiple emails from the school to “be sure to submit by November 1 to be considered for priority deadline”, as if this was somehow an advantage (let alone knowing a month earlier on Feb 1). Come to find out today, her school within COFA won’t likely release decisions until March 1 with all the other RD candidates who submitted by December 15!! What was the point of goading her into submitting by November 1 when she was NEVER going to hear earlier or be at an advantage in any way. In fact, her portfolio submission could have benefited by DELAYING her submission date. The only reference to this policy for her school within UT is referenced in a small blurb through multiple drop downs… Not a specific “Dates & Timelines” that other schools of this caliber would highlight, instead a link that refers back to the larger UT Admissions’ dates and deadlines…

Congrats to all those admitted so far, and sorry for those who will wait and agonize another month to hear from admissions…She has already given up hope, and I can’t blame her.

P.S Most similar large state schools (Michigan, NC, Wisconsin) pick a date and release decisions (accept, defer, deny) simultaneously… why is this so difficult for TX?

Where did you hear that her decision won’t come out until March 1st?

Some people on Reddit just said that some decisions were released right now. Someone posted they got deferred.

If you applied priority to an honors program, do you hear from them tonight too?

Does UT do deferrals? I thought it was only the CAP and PACE programs?

You have to drill WAY down through the general admissions FAQ under the school with Fine Arts (SDCT in this case):

I can’t seem to embed, but it says “…freshman notices are typically given by March 1.”… here is the link!

Again, my suggestion (FWIW now) is to scroll through the specific school, not UT admissions, to determine whether the larger “priority” dates outlined by admissions apply… It seems now that Fine Arts have a different process and don’t abide by those deadlines… Lessons learned

Happy February 1. Judgement day.

Has anyone discussed how some updates say “Your application for admission is in review” and others say “Your application for freshman admission is in review”? Curious why they are different

To March 1

Being deferred is good. You still have a good chance. I bet they didn’t have time to read a bunch of applications.

where does it tell u that u were deferred?

Thank you for submitting your application to The University of Texas at Austin and your interest in Plan II Honors! Given the number of applications we’ve received and the increasing demand for some programs, we find that we must complete an additional review of your application before making a final decision.

We will do everything we can to provide a decision notification efficiently and no later than March 1. Thank you for your patience and interest in UT Austin!

Check the Admission tab for information about the current status of your application for general admission to the university.
