This is a good question for autos… because non-autos either get their first choice or denied. But if we figured this out then it probably means that if you have it then you got admitted
Non-autos get denied if they don’t get their first choice? Is that in writing somewhere? Seems like it should be.
Yes that’s confusing ? Why put a second choice at all then!
I just got an interview notification for bhp? It feels so crazy tho because my stats are nowhere near the top. For starters I’m OOS, I barely make top 15% in my class of around 400, my act is not above average, and my supps were not my favorite out of all the ones I wrote.
Based on historical trends it’s very unlikely for you to get your second choice major at UT as a non auto.
what do everyone’s portals say? I know some people’s have said your transcript is in review, your file is in review, we are currently reviewing your application, etc. I’m just wondering why there are so many different versions and what they each mean.
In regards to there being more applications this year this is definitely true. I’ve heard that there is a significant increase in applications across selective schools due to grade inflation from the pandemic. With online school, many students GPAs increased, and with test optional policies, (and a reason to have less ECs) many students felt they had stronger applications and applied to much more difficult schools than they might have pre-pandemic. This increased the amount of applicants by a lot. I heard that BC (who usually has around 2000 ED applicants) had over 11,000 people apply ED this year. Just goes to show that this year is completely up in the air and no one is a shoe-in anywhere!
That’s not true. In Texas, spring semester grades were not counted in GPA. So there is no inflation of the grades.
From the BC ED college confidential post:
Last year, BC accepted about 36% of 1700 ED1 apps (comes out to around 630), denied 700, and deferred the rest. ED2 was around 1050 and ED 1 and 2 acceptance rates were very close, within a percent, with total ED acceptance rate stated somewhere as 37%.
This year BC received over 1,950 ED1 applications and will offer admission to 41%. 30% of ED1 applicants will be deferred to the Regular Decision.
Roughly a 15% increase in ED1 vs last year with ED2 to come.
No spring grades prevented those Juniors who took accelerated courses and would have received weighted GPA’s to move ahead of those who wouldn’t have received weighted grades. Therefore, it did benefit the ranks of those taking less rigorous courses statistically.
UT says they do not consider legacy, but do you know if it is different for OOS?
I am sorry. There is no concept of accelerated course in school semester system, unless you take 8 or 10 weeks dual-credits. Dual-Credits don’t count towards GPA.
There were many junior who suffered due to district policy changes…especially those who took hardest classes to bump up their GPA.
No grade “inflation” in my HS. As a matter of fact, the pandemic causes a stall of ranking as no one can overtake others. We either all got bad grades in a badly arranged class, or the school made a specific class pass/fail.
UT is test optional not test blind, those submitting high SAT/ACT can request UT to factor those in admission decision. So those taking SAT/ACT early with good score along with good ranking up to Fall semester of 11th grade get an edge over others.
Many people applied binding EDs more likely due to test optional. And most of them are rich kids that can afford a few $K of application fees.
How did you find out? I’m still waiting to hear back but I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting an interview.
For those not taking rigorous classes, the “benefit” in the sense of not falling as much is not really benefit. Or you can also say that those AP taking kids are not pulling away as much.
It doesn’t change the ranking. But I do believe test optional (SAT/ACT) may be the cause of increase applications.
i got an email today at 8:30 est. I thought the exact same, they are def still releasing interview notifications though so don’t worry
When is your interview set for?
Math is math. With fewer inputs (I.e., 5 semesters instead of 6) it leaves kids cluttered with less separation than if another semester went into calculations – since ranks are rebased on %, separations matters and it has a significant impact. It’s just math.
