Its an investment.
But spend $ 1200 bucks to fly two in to RDU and stay in Chapel Hill over a three day weekend. Austin will be begging you to get up and go go go - see stuff all around, Chapel Hill is mellow… sleep in, casual breakfast/brunch, mellow around (Okay so B-School not so much but…)
Two vibes - and some will love Austin and and not dig Chapel Hill and some will love Chapel Hill and not dig Austin - but in my opinion - spending $ 2500-3000 to go to both in the face of what it costs to go instate-OOS as well as the need for your kids to love the atmosphere they are in and perform - they will likely know after 24 hours what feels like “they belong” either way. Great schools - different “Vibe”.

I’ve booked a hotel for an admitted students day/weekend so we will check it out! She’s been to UT 4x so she is sure she loves it. She is a finance girly so it’s looking like the only other real contender is the super reach #1 finance school because why not try??? I’d love her to stay in Texas with me but I support whatever makes her happy.
Deferred and Regular Decision - any insight as to whether we can hope and dare to dream that UT will release RD decisions early (like last year?). 
UT Housing website says the 1st round of contracts for on-campus residence halls go out 2/15 (same as last cycle, move up from the typical old 3/1 date). I’d bet on the 1st business day after so 2/16. In order to be eligible for a contract you must have paid the $100 application and paid the $200 enrollment. That requires people to have offers in hand. And housing will want to get on with a big chunk of those on 2/15 so I bet it will push the RD release to 2/6 or maybe 2/9. That way the ones waiting to hop on and enroll can get in the 1st round of housing contracts. Just a hunch. The ice storm last week closing school 3 days didnt help though. Fingers crossed for y’all.

Correct. You cannot pay the $200 until you get your decision auto or nonauto. It only shows up in the WIO (What I Owe) in the UT Direct part of the student portal on decision day (and really the majority of autos would wait on it even if you could since no major is guaranteed for autos except liberal arts).
The $200 actually showed up in WIO for my auto-admit about 45 minutes before his decision posted in the portal - following all the “portal astrology” signs the reddit kids talk about year after year.
Once you have paid the $100 housing application and paid the $200 enrollment, you are eligible to get a housing contract. They will start sending those in batches in order of the dates people paid the housing $100 fee starting 2/15 (or most likely the business day after), then 3/1, 3/15, 4/1, 4/15, etc until they run out.

Thx. We paid her housing deposit back last fall, so we were early on that. She’s still waiting on ND, but I think UT is still first choice.
same here. Ours is out-of-state. we are less hopeful as chances are very low. They deferral rate is very high.
Does that mean our fate is already decided? :=)
Does anyone else see their major populated in the first scholarship in UT LASSO? It’s a list of all the majors, but mine is checked with my first choice major. I know one of the other scholarships has everyone’s first choice major populated so not sure if this is a sign.

Someone asked about this on Reddit and everyone says they have it so probably not a sign. I’m not sure where you find that but my kid didn’t apply for any scholarships so if that’s some sort of the scholarship portal we don’t have it…or at least I don’t know where it is.
If you search up UT LASSO, it should be the first link that pops up. It’s the same login as the admissions portal.
