UT Austin class of c/o 2022 admissions

@UmaSridhar I didn’t see enough information on UT austin’s website for engineering transfer however of all qualified applicants who wanted to transfer into engineering about 79% got in.

Just got an email saying that my financial aid is ready!

hi, i am very worried right now! checked my ut direct and saw that i had been awarded financial aid, however, when i activated my FAN i saw that it was all loans! is this everything i am going to receive from UT? or will they release more as more decisions are made? if so did i make a mistake in activating my FAN this early? i am in state and accepted to LAH, received $88,000 from Trinity as well as $40,000 from UTA so i guess i somewhat assumed i would get at least something, even if a very small amount.

I posted a sep thread but thought i’d ask on here, anyone know if I can apply for Dean’s scholars going into sophomore year or second semester freshman yr? I forgot to apply and missed the deadline
:frowning:

thanks @bros20000, 79% internal transfer. So if 10 kids apply for a transfer 7-8 students get in?

That seems too high

What is the Mar 11 housing contact deadline that people are talking about? We applied for housing back in Nov and paid the $50. But haven’t done anything since. Did we miss an important deadline? Haven’t accepted admission offer from UT yet.

@rosewolf UT merit scholarship is competitive and difficult to get.
What you get is mostly need-based financial aid.
What is your student profile like? Family income?

@pepper5420 You can’t be offered a housing contract until you accept admission

Thank you. I was assuming that, but since people accept admission on different days, I was confused why there would be a deadline of Mar 11th. I guess everyone has a different deadline, based on when they receive the housing contract? It made me panic seeing those posts with that Mar 11 deadline. I thought we didn’t do something we needed to in order to still be eligible for housing.

@CertifiedCC definitely wouldn’t qualify much for need based, my family is practically upper middle class. i have a 3.9 unweighted gpa, 31 act, top 15%, and various volunteer hours and extracurriculars. i know my stats aren’t extraordinary, but i had a strong application. every other school i applied to at least offered me something. what would i have needed to secure a scholarship?

@pepper5420 You won’t receive a housing contract until you accept the UT offer of admission. Your original date of housing application holds your spot in line, so you’re good until May 1. However, if you want to register for orientation (which is open and typically fills up fast) you will need to accept the offer of admission and pay the enrollment deposit. That will in turn trigger a housing contract…which will have a short deadline and another deposit due. I believe all deposits and prepayments are refundable until May 1, with the exception of a $25 non-refundable cancellation fee for orientation.

@FloMoMom. Thanks. That helps a bunch.

@rosewolf I don’t think UT will give you anything for a need-based grant or a merit scholarship.
UT is not generous with scholarships as the in-state tuition is already pretty low for a highly ranked public university and many top students with impressive resumes (top 5% students) want to go there, with or without any financial aid. For example, you can see there are numerous students who were offered full scholarship from UTD also chose to go to UT with no or little financial aid.

You may find it surprising that UT has lower tuition and fees than UTD.

@UmaSridhar yes, that’s what it seems like.

How long did it take you guys to get a housing contract? I signed up early Feb.

What is the deal with second choice? When is that coming out?

Stats:
SAT: 1400 ACT: 29 (I took it as a sophomore) Plenty of Leadership. President of two clubs, active student council member, varsity debate captain, varsity golf, GPA was good but not amazing, ranked 9th in my class. Over 200 hours of logged community service.
I got auto accepted to UT and accepted into my major of choice, government, Got in to plan II honors and finally got a full tuition scholarship 44,000 over 4 years. Put a lot of effort into my schooling but I made it very clear in my essays that there are more important things to me in my life, like political activism and my community. For all the parents out there that completed applications for your students, the admissions counselors can tell. Let your students paint an accurate picture of how they feel about the college process.

Is a rejection appealable? Just heard this is a thing.

Yes
