UT Austin class of c/o 2022 admissions

@ggbucks Stats alone don’t get you in. They saw something that the applicant did not. That’s how it goes.

Looks like another day of waiting…

Considering that kids with 1300’s got in CS last year, @TexArt, I can only say its a travesty and crazy to think about. UT is a state school and if its rejecting the state’s best and brightest, then it’s definitely not doing what it should be.

UT rejects high stats kids all the time simply because they aren’t auto admit

Contrary to what CC believes stats aren’t everything. Having a high SAT doesn’t guarantee an acceptance. It’s only one piece. The Texas legislature instituted the auto-admit program, not the university. Just because you are auto admitted does not give you a spot in your major

bud they were auto.

So, I got the Feb 27th message, but I haven’t received any email from Austin. Did the other deferred people get anything?

@Kd6410 I wouldn’t be as stunned if we were talking Stanford or an Ivy. I wouldn’t have such a problem if this was an out of state kid either–someone with a 35 ACT, in-state, etc. should get in. Sure maybe they didn’t have extracurriculars, or a bad rec letter, but there have been multiple posts of very high stat students not getting in tonight. I doubt they all had some horrible thing hidden in their app.

so what time are they releasing decisions tomorrow?

Dear Colleague,

I am writing to share details with you about some decisions that we’ll be sending out to priority applicants over the next few days. It is always a privilege to read the work that so many accomplished, hard-working students submit when they apply for admission. As students take great care with their application submissions, we too have worked diligently to make sure each application is carefully reviewed. As this is decision time for our priority applicants, I have provided information below that I hope you find helpful as you work with your students to support their college planning.

Thank you for your partnership.

Coming Decisions
Today and tomorrow the Office of Admissions at The University of Texas at Austin will release a significant number of admission decisions to freshman applicants who met our fall 2018 freshman priority deadline. These decisions will be posted on our electronic site, MyStatus, over the next few days, with official print notices arriving in students’ mailboxes a few days later. Some students will be admitted to their requested majors and invited to become part of Texas ’22. But many applicants will receive other kinds of decisions as well.
Response to Our Priority Deadline
We saw an enthusiastic response to our new priority deadline this year with thousands of students completing their applications by Nov. 1. We also guaranteed priority notifications to applicants from Harvey-affected counties – meaning that thousands of students from these affected areas are awaiting priority notifications by Feb. 1.

For years many of you, as well as families and students, have let us know how beneficial it is to receive early decisions because of the time needed for applicants and families to consider their options. Because so many of our applicants did their part and met the priority deadline, we wanted to do ours also and deliver as many decisions as possible to priority applicants by Feb. 1– as we promised.
Types of Decisions
In addition to offers of admission to requested majors, students will receive various kinds of decisions when they go out over the next few days.
Major selection. Some automatically admissible applicants will be asked to select from available majors. This step is necessary for automatically admissible students to finalize their offer of admission. The online process of selecting majors offers students details about which majors are available and helps them to select majors that will put them on a path to reaching their educational and career goals.
Nursing Guarantee. A small number of students (approximately 60) who applied to Nursing will be offered the opportunity to participate in a new program that puts participants on track to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. These students will begin their studies in the College of Natural Sciences and will receive tailored advising and benefit from a strong science foundation designed to help them prepare for life as a nursing professional. Students selected for this program are guaranteed admission to the School of Nursing if they complete the program
Architecture and Fine Arts: Because the holistic review and decision making for majors in the School of Architecture and the College of Fine Arts involves portfolio and audition review, and faculty within the academic departments, decisions for many Architecture and Fine Arts applicants are still being made. A few may receive decisions in the next couple of days, but many applicants to these programs will be notified that their applications are still under review and that they will receive their decisions soon.
PACE: A group of applicants will be invited to participate in Path to Admission through Co-Enrollment (PACE), our co-enrollment program with Austin Community College.
CAP: Many Texas applicants will be offered the opportunity to participate in the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP) during the 2018-2019 academic year.
Denials: This year we again received over 50,000 applications for freshman admission. We are very grateful for this interest in UT Austin; however the interest in UT Austin makes freshman admission quite competitive. Each year we find that we must make difficult decisions in our review of student applications, as we are not able to accommodate all interested students in our freshman class. Like all decisions, denials are released through MyStatus. Students receiving a deny message will also receive a printed letter providing information to assist them if they decide to apply for transfer admission to UT Austin in the future.

What about Freshman Honors Program Decisions?
Many students have already been accepted into the Freshman Honors Programs to which they applied, but many spaces in these programs are still left to be filled. In some cases priority applicants may be notified by an honors program that additional time is needed for their decision. Decisions from honors programs will continue to roll out over the next few weeks, so good news is still to come for many students.
MyStatus and Email for Details
As decisions are electronically delivered in this priority round and in the final regular round, applicants will be notified by email to log in to MyStatus for an update. After logging in, students will find information to help them make decisions about their offers and options. In some cases additional information will be delivered to students by email.

Please help us encourage students to read their messages carefully. Although students should pay attention to dates and deadlines, of course, there is no rush to immediately accept any offer. Some offers have built-in delays that mean students are not able to accept right away. In these cases, students have been told that these delays are built in so that they have time to carefully review their options. Students will be told when to return to MyStatus to let us know their decision.
Contacting Admissions
At this time of year many families and students anxiously await admission decisions. Arrival of decisions can be stressful, even for those who are admitted. The Office of Admissions encourages students to contact the admissions counselor with whom they’ve interacted during the application process with questions or concerns.

Our admissions counselors generally work with students from specific high schools. You and your students can make contact with UT Austin admissions counselors by using our Counselor Finder

So was today’s wave just a pile of rejection/deferred?

@TexArt That’s basically number for number the stats I have, and I basically have zero STEM ECs. Still waiting on a decision… that did not make me feel better about my chances :((

rejections and deferrals, that’s all there’s today. Back to stressed out Fridays waiting for a decision

My college counselor just got this email! I copied and pasted the ENTIRE THING! I haven’t even read it yet

@ggbucks i am familiar with many kids in that program- it is ultra selective- some have apps, some have start ups, some have summer projects and even high school projects t that have sold or been published- almost all of them have done something VERY CS related that is way more than any of us can imagine doing as a high school student. I am also familiar with a ton of GREAT kids who have been rejected from that major. it is one of those programs where great numbers simply are not enough. not saying that @TexArt 's son was not strong. He sounds very qualified. They just have a ton of strong applicants so you can’t judge getting rejected just on numbers alone. I believe it is harder than most of the engineering majors- be prepared you will also see MANY 35’s get declined on those majors as well. This happens every single year and it is heart-wrenching to watch great kids get rejected from programs they seemed perfectly qualified for.

yeah, priority was a bad idea.

@18class Thank You for posting this email.

@18class Thank you so much!

@18class Thank you so much!

The idea was a good one…the execution has been poor

What confuses me about that email is it says today and tomorrow and then “over the next few days”. Confusing?
