UT Austin Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

I mentioned previously in this thread how I looked at least years thread & they started posting about decisions around May 6th. Im hoping that we hear back at the same time since its not too long til then. Wishing everyone luck!

I hope we hear back in early May so that we can start preparing to transfer. Does everybody have back-up schools in case they get rejected?

If Texas doesn’t work out I’m probably going to Case Western for CS. Hopefully we hear soon and good luck everyone

My backup is TXST but I don’t like to acknowledge it as an option. I’m completely sold on UT

My backups are (already accepted):

TCU (Interdisciplinary Inquiry)
UH (poli-sci/pre law track)
UNT (Interdisciplinary Studies)

…because I’m not willing to sell my soul to aTm. ; )

Its UT or bust for me.

I’m coming from UTSA, and if UT doesn’t except me, well I guess its back to UTSA.

I can’t visualize myself being at any other University so I didn’t bother applying anywhere else.

I’m an out of state applicant. Hoping for the best since UT is my dream school

Hey y’all. Guess a wave didn’t hit tonight unfortunately :confused: I’m pretty hopeful that by next Friday we’ll see the first wave (if they make us wait much longer I will snap)

Anyway, ig I’ll throw out my stats so y’all can tell me how much of a chance I’ve got.

I applied for Government in COLA with 26 completed hours (current freshman), a 3.78 GPA (1 tragic B in calculus 3). My EC’s and volunteer experience are fairly decent for the major Im applying to (volunteered w presidential and student body campaigns, invited to IR conferences, etc). My essays were really strong. No LOR bc I was told it didn’t really hold much weight in the application.

Edit: I’m mainly concerned w my GPA and little work experience holding me back

Hi y’all! I’m a long time lurker so I figured I would share my stats.

I applied for the Linguistics major within COLA with a 3.65 (a bit on the low side, I know). I am currently a freshman. EC’s are pretty decent, including a semester volunteering with speech pathologists and neurosurgeons in an ICU, along with 200+ more volunteer hours. I think my essays are decently strong, and deal directly with my major. No LOR.

Just definitely nervous about my GPA, but UT admissions is so wack, so you never know. Hopefully we start hearing back really soon bc I have nothing else to think about!!

That’s awesome man. I’m shooting for neuroscience with aspirations to attend med school after I finish my undergrad. How would I go about volunteering the way you did? How was the experience? Pretty wild stuff!

I went to UVA this past year, and they had a giant service org, with one division matching you with a certain med service! I’m sure a lot of universities have something similar that is volunteer-based, but if not, a lot of hospitals have their own programs where you can volunteer in the same capacity! The experience was very heavy at some times, but I was always learning! It definitely got me out of my comfort zone. I’m pre health as well (pre-dental)! :slight_smile:

Hey! Could someone maybe chance me? That’d be amazing. :slight_smile:

I applied for Nursing (external) with a 4.0 with 31 completed hours (freshman). Pretty good EC’s. Volunteered over 400+ hours. My essays are fairly strong. I have 4 LOR (2 professors, 1 nurse, 1 physician). Shadowed nurses, surgeons, and physicians for around 300 hours. I tried to make myself a fairly strong applicant for the nursing program, but I’m sure that me being an external applicant is throwing me off by a lot. Also, my high school stats are like… not that good… which helped me to realize that I needed to actually start trying in college lol… I was wondering if they would focus on the high school portion of my application too or would they prioritize on what I did in college. Thanks :slight_smile:

@fishies15
Honestly, I think you have one of the best stats in this thread. I think you’re a competitive applicant especially if you have all your prereqs. But based off of prior years the school of nursing seems to be a very tricky college to get into. And based off of last years thread no one really seems to know what exactly The School of Nursing is looking for. If you want some experienced feedback you should visit Texadmissions.com and fill out his free questionnaire/consultation (https://texadmissions.typeform.com/to/CYDxHV) as if you’re applying for Spring or Fall 2021. He’s quite thorough and responds in a couple of hours. Hope this helps and I wish you the very best of luck! (:

@CNSteph
Thank you so much for the thorough feedback!!! :slight_smile: Best of luck to you as well :smiley:

Hey guys! I am a Fall 2020 transfer applicant for UT Austin. I’ve been following this thread for awhile now and appreciate everything I’ve been able to learn.

I’m wondering if anyone would be able to tell me whether UT looks at the GPA from just the current institution someone is attending or the combined GPA from previous community colleges? Or If maybe they will look at both? I went to a community college in Seattle for a year in 2016-2017 and have been at ACC in Austin since Fall 2018.

I haven’t been able to get a definite answer on any source I’ve found, so thought maybe someone here may know! Thanks :slight_smile:

UT compiles all your transcripts from all your schools and gets your GPA from that (all your coursework at the college level)

If y’all are admitted where do you hope to live? Any thoughts on the Transfer LLC?

I called the office of admissions this morning and they said there shouldn’t be any delays. However, most people should expect to hear back on or around the deadline of June 15th.

@giventyl that’s great! also, someone in the groupme (can’t post the link on CC but its on the subreddit r/UTAustinAdmissions) called and heard that some results may even be released tomorrow (friday may 1).

@giventyl did the admissions people tell you that most should expect to hear back around June 15? I know that’s usually been the case for the past few years, but it makes me wonder what type of applicants are being accepted earlier and why.
