UT Austin Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Usually lurking, but decided to join! English major, 3.56, 72 credits, applied to COLFA.

Decided I’d try to transfer out of UTSA, and applied to 16 schools (originally intended to apply to about 40+). Aimed pretty low at the beginning, but once I started getting more acceptances, I decided to try for some higher ranked schools.

So far, I’ve been accepted by:
Boston University
University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Georgia
University of Kansas
University of Alabama
University of Hawaii

Got rejected by:
University of Michigan

UT’s still my realistic #1 due to the possibility of free tuition (low-income), with Wisconsin as my backup. Also applied to Rice and my dream school, Stanford, but I’m keeping them on my dream list for now.

One hesitation I have about UT is double-majoring. I decided really late in the game that I’d try for a BA in Computer Science, but would finish my English degree, since I’d like to teach English someday. From what I understand, Wisconsin requires 30 institutional credits for a major, whereas UT requires 60. Additionally, Computer Science is in a totally different college at UT, whereas it’s in the same college as English at Wisconsin.

Can’t wait to see how the COLFA and CNS acceptances go on this thread! Hoping to hear everyone’s decisions soon!

I submitted my transfer app for college of education to UT in january. I have all A’s currently in my classes except for one class I have a high B. Should I use the pass or no pass option? Will that affect my chances of getting accepted as a transfer?

Did ya all already send in your AP scores too? I will be a rising sophomore with hopes of getting into UT this Fall. My AP scores weren’t great but I will will get credit for a few like government and English. I was thinking if I got in then send them. Yes ? No?

When do we get the decisions?

Hi I normally just lurk on these forums but I figured I’d just say good luck to everyone! I’m not entirely sure I’ll get in as I ended my first college semester with 4 As and a high C but figured I’d give it a shot anyways since UT is my dream school! Hope that everyone is able to get in where they want!

Anyone a CS major? What are you working on as you wait lol

I heard they took in one external nursing major last fall

@student8899 , back at the end of April someone posted this: "I called the office of admissions this morning and they said there shouldn’t be any delays. However, most people should expect to hear back on or around the deadline of June 15th. "

Getting tired of waiting…
I got admitted to NYU and I have to decide whether to attend or not until tmrw …
Ughudkdhs

congrats on the NYU!!!

@soyyaaa0312 i feel the exact same way. i got into NYU as well and waiting for UT is making me so anxious. If you feel like it, I would recommend calling NYU admissions and asking for an enrollment deposit extension. I just completed the form today and got approved for it. At least it would buy you some time.

@James80 I live in Austin, so while UT Austin will technically be the closest for me to drive to, it’s still possible to commute to San Marcos to save on that sweet $.

@mavicb where can I find the form?

@soyyaaa0312 i emailed them but given the time i would call right away. sorry i just saw ur post.

@soyyaaa0312 i forgot to mention they will specifically email you the form.

@mavicb I just received the form and got it approved. Thanks. But I don’t think UT decision will come out by then

Anyone heard back yet?

Not sure when it posted, but I just checked MyStatus and got my acceptance!
GPA: 3.53 - I know it’s on the lower side
COLA - sociology
I am an in state applicant.

Congratulations! How did you feel about the strength of your essays before acceptance?

Thank you!
My essays were definitely my strong suit. I’ve always loved writing, so I used that to my advantage. My grandfather attended UT, so I included that as a motivating factor for myself. I also researched different sociology professors in the program and their work and mentioned my interest in their work in my essay as well.
I also had a recommendation letter from an Army colonel, so I think that was partially helpful because I know my GPA wasn’t the best.
