KHOU.com staff report

AUSTIN – Forget Aggie jokes.

Cheerleaders attending camp at the University of Texas have provided more than enough funny fodder for the state this summer.

Ever wondered how many cheerleaders can fit onto an elevator? We’ll give you a hint: Not 26.

But a group of peppy campers found this out the hard way at UT’s Jester Residence Hall.

Twenty-six cheerleaders packed into an elevator there, but it got stuck and stayed that way for about 30 minutes.

Some of the girls passed out.

Others used their cell phones to call for help.

One girl was treated and released at a hospital and two others were treated at the scene after the Tuesday night prank, officials said.

UT officials didn’t think the prank was all that funny.

“It’s dangerous, actually,” said UT police spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon. “They’re lucky that that’s all that happened.”

Just a few weeks ago, teens at another campus cheerleading camp had an entire dormitory evacuated after they smelled an unidentifiable odor.

Hazmat crews descended on the scene and discovered the culprit: burnt popcorn.

But the benign source of the smell didn’t stop dozens of cheerleaders from complaining of respiratory problems.

Conan O’Brian also made fun of this story on his talk show Thursday or Friday night!

That’s hilarious!! Those Jester elevators are pretty dang small, I can’t even see fifteen people fitting in. Also, if that was supposed to be a prank, the Texas Cheerleaders need to pick up their game, the only funny thing about that was them getting stuck.

It wasn’t the Texas Cheerleaders… it was a group of high schoolers who were attending a Cheerleading camp at UT.

Another article said they were between 14 and 17 years old. The ones who go on top of the pyramids were probably pretty tiny. :)

that’s hilarious!
when I was at UT this summer for Boys state. we stayed at Jester, and 14 (or was it 16) guys got stuck in one of the elevators for 30 minutes. These are big 17 year old guys who play football and other sports, so I’m sure they weighted as much as 26 tiny cheerleaders. Afterwards, jester put up “no more than 8 a time” signs in all of the elevators. It was the joke at the camp and will defiantly go down in boys state history.
