UVA 2024 Early Action Discussion

When you look at the CSS award date, it is one of the first couple days in February. Shouldn’t the UVA EA decision come before the CSS award date?

what what is cas award

1/31 i believe-https://alumni.virginia.edu/admission/admission-liaison-program/admission-basics/early-decision/

it should be on 1/31: https://alumni.virginia.edu/admission/admission-liaison-program/admission-basics/early-decision/

I would look at the regular website not the admission liaison program as that might be misinformation (by accident). @“Dean J” has always said this year that mid-February would be EA decisions - and hopefully earlier. Look on her Instagram and Twitter! Hope this helps.

I am surprised by the super-low traffic here like @DrSenioritis and @twiume. There are over 90 pages of comments on the same thread for UMich, and I’m surprised its crickets on here.

Hey folks,

I’m a little surprised that people aren’t aware of the timeline for this year. It has been on the website, in the application instructions, since August. [I</a> mentioned this two weeks ago here](UVA 2024 Early Action Discussion - #27 by Dean_J - University of Virginia - College Confidential Forums). I’ve gone over the timeline multiple times during my Instagram q&a sessions.

Reddit is much more active than College Confidential since this site was redesigned.

@“Dean J” When we visited UVA and heard you speak, I thought it was the case that EA applicants did not need to submit mid-term senior grades. I thought you said one of the key distinctions in applying EA was that a student did not need midterm grades for their strongest application. However, I see online that they are requested. There has been some speculation here, but can you please clarify? As an EA applicant, are mid-term grades required? Also, what if they are not available in time? Our school is still taking midterms this week.

Thanks!!

@Musicmom2015 If you read the UVA website - yes, it does say this “Early Action is a non-binding and unrestrictive admission plan that may be an attractive option for those feel they can present a strong application without senior grades being reviewed.” HOWEVER, then if you look further on the website - under Deadlines and Instructions it says that mid-year reports (self-reported through the portal) are due - WHEN AVAILABLE for EA. For many this “WHEN AVAILABLE” may be AFTER decisions are made for EA - so that is why @“Dean J” has most likely said that one must present a strong application without senior grades. There is no guarantee for many students that those mid-year grades are AVAILABLE before decisions are made and files reviewed. Hope this helps!

Candidly, UVA isn’t much of an “early action” notification. It’s a full month or two behind pretty much every other program that has early action.

They are a little later, but at least they get through the applications. Some schools that can’t get through them all just defer a lot of people. I hope the lateness means they are doing their best to give everyone a solid read. And it’s not that late, honestly. And this year is different with the addition of ED. With that said, I know the waiting is very difficult. Good luck!

@Watson18 when I read these comments it makes me a bit upset. Not sure why, but there are plenty of other EA public and private schools that do not notify until later January/February. These would include UNC, Clemson, Maryland, Texas (although called Priority), Georgia Tech, Tulane, University of Miami , University of Richmond, Villanova and many many of the Michigan applicants. If I had to guess, most Michigan EA applicants are notified in Dec they are “deferred” or this year they called it “postponed.” So I understand that you can call out UVA - but honestly, it is in line with many other colleges that have EA.

Dean J posted on her twitter that they are almost done with UVA decisions! Whenever they do end up coming out, Good luck to all of you!!

Dean J also posted: “Mid-year reports have started to trickle in. Remember two things: students can upload a screen cap or PDF of their grade report in their portals and first trimester counts as mid-year for schools on that calendar. #uva #uva24 #collegeadmissions

hcmom65, we heard from Tulane EA mid-December and from URichmond and Villanova EA mid-January.

decisions will be out 1/31 for UVA

Dean J just posted decisions will be out Friday evening! Good luck to everyone!!

Very exciting! Good luck to everyone!

@amb1128 I was just pointing out that UVA is NOT alone in posting an EA decision in January or February. @Watson18 made it sound like UVA was really not EA if notifying students in Jan/Feb. Yes, my error - Tulane EA did come out in December. I am very aware of the notification that came out today about EA notification for UVA will be this Friday!

Any information about how the financial aid process works for EA admits?
We have submitted FAFSA and Profile but have received no requests for further documents from UVA.
Other schools asked for several items even before admission.
