UVA chances ??

Hi! I would like to start by saying I am OOS and know it is a lot harder to get into UVA and I am curious of my chances!

GPA: 96.12 (weighted) 95.45 (unweighted) straight A’s
APs: 9 APs (including senior year)
Honors: 9 Honors Courses
Duel Credit: 1 Business Course

EC:

  • I have been a competive Irish Dancer since I was 3 and have not taken any time off (I am a junior in high school). I hold many regional, national, and world titles. I dance for a school an hour and a half from where i live so traveling does take up most of my time (I dance 5 days a week). I have also preformed in many professional shows and have helped teach with the younger students in my school.
  • I have been on Varisty Golf since I was in eighth grade. I have been awarded Coaches choice and have been picked to be captain during my senior year.

-I am actively involved in a program called Youth and Government and have been my entire high school career. It is a state wide program and I hold leadership within the Judicial branch. I also hold a leadership position in my own district. I was also chosen as a CONA (conference on national affairs) alternate during my junior year. This conference is a select group of around 20 NYS canadates who represent our state in a nationwide conference.

  • I have been on my schools ministry board since eighth grade and have been active within the club and help raise awareness/money for our missions.

-junior class co-president

-member of NHS (junior and senior year)

-member of Kinder Energy Club (Founded by myself and a few friends) which is an organization that raises money for children in Cambodia to be able to travel to and from school.

-volunteer on many local campaigns, at my local Boys and Girls Club, and with Camp Good Days (a camp for children with Cancer). I also actively volunteer at my school.

-ACT (28)… hoping to increase that the next time around.

Any thoughts?

You have a solid chance of getting in but remember this school is hard to get into out of state. Also do not worry to much about your act score if you cannot get it up, uva is very holistic and looks mostly at the rigor of your curriculum.

good luck

Wow – amazing GPA and activities; a world title is going to get their attention and you have the rigor they like. I disagree about your ACT, though. Do try to bring it up. If you were in state, I’d say don’t worry too much, but out of state is even harder at UVa (around 20% acceptance) and for this year, out of state applications were way up. I think the average ACT was 32. I do, however, believe UVa when they say they do a holistic review. Our in-state DD’s ACT was 29 but she had a GPA higher than the average and strong local and state leadership experience. They also emphasize the essays so tell a good story that no one else can tell and let your personality come through.
