ohio
act 29
class rank 1/160
vp student council
float chairman
city youth commissioner
pres nhs
but my school only offers 3 Aps senior yr; i am taking them but i am not sure i can compete with kids who have taken 5 and 6 aps
i like unc and uva but as i understand they are very difficult to get into
oh my sister went to unc, not sure if this helps

Decent shot, given your rank. But what’s up with your ACT score? Is your school not very competitive or something? It should be a bit higher than that…getting a 32+ would make you a much more appealing applicant.

when colleges look at an applicant do look at what classes they were given an opportunity to take. i know my school is not the greatest but will i be penalized for it.

can someone give me an idea of what other schools i should apply to
im pretty sure i want to do pre med

the fact that your sis went to unc helps. but it’s REALLY hard for out of state students. if you get the ACT to 30 or above you have a good shot. nhs pres is good

Schools definitely look at what classes your school offers and what you chose to take out of them. They’re not going to penalize you for taking 3 AP’s if your school offers only 3 when comparing you to a 7 AP person.

Your EC’s look nice but as cav said, numbers could be better. =)

“But what’s up with your ACT score? Is your school not very competitive or something?”

Whats up with that? A person’s ACT score doesn’t have to reflect the same level of academic achievement (rank) they have earned. Therefore (and plus) it doesn’t have to reflect the “competitiveness” of the school. Maybe I was reading you wrong on that one. It just confused me.

But yeah, as if you haven’t heard it enough, try and pull the ACT up some

agreed…
