I would also like to know the answer to this question. I am considering both schools.

I visited college park but didn’t apply, it [college park] is HUGE. way bigger in all ways than UVA, unless your doing track it’s crazy, although you can adjust your schedule there to make it work. that said it is probably easier to get in to OOS, and some sciences might be better there, but overall UVA wins. C’ville has great food, better social but still allot of frat-heads. I don’t know about econ or political science, but those are common majors at uva

I mean, UVA is so much harder to get into, and it’s overall prestige level and rankings (though I don’t trust those things) are a mile higher than UMD. Having said that, UMD has a magnificent economics program. Like, numerous Nobel Winners are part of the UMD Econ staff, and there are like 10 different Econ majors

OP is an Emory hopeful! I was accepted to Emory this fall and I’m very excited to attend there in a month. However, I was also accepted to UVa (OOS), and I spent some sleepless night deciding where to attend: Emory or Virginia.

I personally think UVa and UMd is on a different level. UVa is one of the four top public universities in the U.S, while UMd is simply a solid public school. UVa has much smaller student to faculty ratio, which allows you to have a closer contact with professors.

I am also interested in Political Science and Economics, and I can tell you right away that UVa has one of the best faculties / programs for the two majors. Much better than UMd. (Even better than Emory) Virginia has a academic section called Foreign Affairs, and its fantastic academic quality + the proximity to D.C cannot be challenged by UMd.

If you have stats that are competitive for Emory, I suggest you don’t bother applying to UMd since most likely you will get accepted there. With Emory stats, try applying to Virginia or Berkeley for state schools.

If you have any more question, just PM me. Cheers, and good luck.

…+ the proximity to D.C cannot be challenged by UMd.

Overall for undergrad I would certainly recommend UVa over UMd, but come on- you can WALK to DC from College Park.

^I think Sensation meant the combination of the facilities and relative closeness to D.C is outstanding. Because you’re right, DC and UMCP are just a few miles apart.

I ride the train every morning to my internship in the city and you know what. Umayryland has a lot of interns on that train going to GREAT internships. I’m talking alot of internships on wallstreet/at good banks. I had never heard of the college before but it seems that the students are doing well. Anyways, I would take UVA over Umaryland without even a thought. I feel UVA has more prestigie to help you get a job + UVA gives more of a college feeling with the sports and smaller size.

^do you think you should change your sign-on to “UVAorUMDorBust” ? You would increase your chance of success by a signifant amount.

lol, well I do not want to go to UMD because it dosen’t have the features I’m looking for but good luck to anyone who is going there.
