UW Autumn 2014 Transfer Thread

@MrK98122‌ congrats! What kind of high school information are on your transcript? Because I used to have English, foreign language, and other subjects in it… Now it has only two subjects are left… my transcript trick didn’t work because I took UW courses in high school

GOT MY LETTER TODAY! So so so happy! My transcript loaded on Monday.
I’ll be getting my AA from a WA CC on sunday. I applied with a 3.5 GPA and intended major is sociology. Good luck to everyone and congrats to my fellow Husky’s!

@MrK98122‌ CONGRATS!!! I can’t wait to check my mail today :)

@2cute4you‌ If you met all the DTA degree requirements, it seems to me that you will most likely start as a junior! Assuming that it is a DTA from a Washington state school as that is the agreement that was made between 4 year universities and CCs across WA state.

Hopefully this link helps: http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Transfer/CreditPolicies#wa-ctct

From what I have gathered, you have 3 weeks after the beginning of your first term as a transfer to declare a major. As far as what happens if you don’t, or don’t get accepted to your desired department, I have no idea what happens! Hopefully someone else might be able to help with this.

Here is what I found on this:

http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/at-the-uw/for-transfer-students/#anchor-1

Look at the “Planning for your Major” section towards the middle of the screen and “UW students are expected to be admitted to a major before they reach 105 credits” a little further down. It seems they will work with you if you ask.

@denisedeladela, that’s great! If your transcript loaded on Monday, then I’ll probably get mine tomorrow since mine loaded on Tuesday.

@nornorbalina, The UW has a 105 credit rule in which students must have declared a major by the time they accumulate 105 credits. If a transfer students gets in with 90 credits, they have about about a quarter to declare a major. According to a UW advising page:

“You must declare a major by the time you have accumulated 105 credits, which is about one quarter into your junior year. If you are not able to declare your intended major by that time, you must make another choice or seek a pre-major extension from a general or departmental adviser. Pre-major extensions are usually granted if you have a reasonable chance of being accepted into your intended major.”

Overall, I would contact advising to get things clear.

@nornorbalina‌ @potatomawnster

thanks for your help guys. you are good people

GUESS WHAT GUYS GOT MY LETTER!!!

Thanks for sharing this stressful and terrifying journey with me! All of you are awesome and I can’t wait to hear when everyone else gets their letters and unofficials!!

Thanks for clearing that up @potatomawnster‌ ! I can’t wait for you to get yours tomorrow, it’s the best feeling ever!

Congrats and good luck to everyone else too!

@potatomawnster I just had a moment like you lol. I opened up the mailbox and saw a big yellow envelope, it turns out it was my concealed weapons permit… For those of you wondering, I managed to be able to go home, due to my family emergency working itself out way earlier than planned. Congrats to all of those that got into UW. By the way @nornorbalina @2cute4you I don’t think there is a 3 week requirement to declare your major, for all majors, that’s just how it is for biology. Most majors have their own requirements of applying to the major, so other than open majors, I would assume that the declaration of a major isn’t an issue. For those that don’t get into their first choice UW says to always have a back up, just in case. It’s just I think UW wants to prevent students from going years without a declaration of major. I believe for students applying to open majors they want to have them apply before fall quarter is over. However, it is always a good idea to speak with a counselor to know exactly what to do. If I am wrong, please someone correct me and if possible paste the link in here, because I haven’t found anything that says otherwise. Once again congrats to everyone that got their letters and know their acceptance is official and good luck to everyone else.

So… the letter comes in a big yellow packet?

(I am impatiently waiting for the official letter! Called admissions today about what unofficial transcript loading meant and they said they can’t answer it):

Hi all! I’ve been watching this thread for a couple days now and I am continuously checking for my unofficial transcript to load…unfortunately, it hasn’t yet. But I was wondering, for those who have had their transcripts load and/or received an acceptance letter, are you in-state transfers or out of state? I’m hoping to transfer from out of state so I’m wondering if maybe it’ll take longer for me to hear back because of that.

Hello! Anyone with Biochemistry major got accepted yet?

I had my transcript load Tuesday, I’m currently waiting for my letter and I am in-state, in the Seattle area. I don’t remember anyone with Biochemistry as their major saying anything about acceptance or rejection, but it could just be that they haven’t said that that is their intended major. I have no idea what color the packet is, but online it shows a yellow packet at this website. http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Admitted

@zsdbkn, If admitted, you will be sent two things: “The Big Envelope” and the welcome Packet. The big envelope which usually comes first is only figuratively big; it’s just a regular sized yellow envelope with a welcome letter. The welcome packet—which usually comes later—contains all the directions and forms you need to confirm your enrollment and attend the orientation sessions.

Everyone keeps talking about a transcript being loaded. What does that mean? I want to transfer from out of state. Still waiting on the letter. I know about the yellow letter, I applied as a freshman but couldn’t go cause it cost too much.

@xoxoyazyxoxo You log into your myUW account, go to admissions, go to after being admitted, and click on unofficial transcripts. Apparently if it loads, that means you’re accepted into the school, however if it hasn’t loaded yet, they haven’t gotten to your application yet or you’ve been denied.

@potatomawnster‌, thanks for that info. My mailbox is tiny so sometimes my mail gets put on the table next to it, but my apartment is a bit sketchy and people take things sometimes so I’m super paranoid. But you’ve been super helpful. I think you, @jenny4399‌ and I are on the same boat of having it loaded Tuesday and no mail yet. I will be VERY disappointed if it doesn’t show up tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

@kelciemelcie‌ okay thank you. Do you know when in July they stop sending the admission letters? I don’t know if it’s the end of July or beginning of July.

@xoxoyazyxoxo‌ No I actually don’t know when either. On the website they’re very vague by just saying “June-July”…frustrating :-w

@xoxoyazyxoxo A post on the UW admissions Facebook page said they will keep sending results until the end of July.

hey! i am an international students transferring from a WA cc. any international students here got their acceptance letter already? i’ve been waiting and i’m in the state of panicking right now
