@Italianmajor What department are you applying to?

@adamday in the same boat - just submitted to engineering with no acceptance yet.

@gilmorej I am studying Italian! Romance language, not a competitive major. By the way my letter came in a white envelope!!! That made me nervous.

Hey guys, so is the letter white or yellow??

For me the acceptance letter was in a yellow envelope and then the details of accepting your admission was in a white envelope.

Has anyone that put in the main UW application that they would be applying to engineering, been accepted yet? Maybe that’s why we haven’t heard @adamday ?? Maybe the university waits until the department application has been submitted? Just a thought.

My transfer letter of acceptance came in a white envelope.

Hopefully other transfer international students already have their unofficial transcripts loaded. Mine just loaded 40 minutes ago. It listed my major as Speech and Hearing Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. Also showed my student ID number and birthdate. Wish I didn’t pay my deposit for NYU yesterday, but after all I’m still choosing UW! So happy

I’ve been creeping on this thread for a while and I have a question…

I have read almost all the posts but I don’t see any questions that match this situation exactly.

I received an offer of admission (unofficial loaded, letter received, A&O date reserved, ect.), but my GPA is pretty low, and is even lower after Spring quarter due to my passing but not passing grade of 1.0 in calc 1.

My GPA at the time I applied was 3.2. Now it is 2.99 after the abysmal grade I got in calc. Math intense courses have always been my weakness. Even in Chem 161 I got a 1.6 in Winter. In Chem 162 where there is less math, I got a 3.6 this Spring.

Will they rescind my application because of this? I already have an AA-DTA, but I decided to go on to complete science courses at my CC because I would like to major in Biology, which I read is now competitive. I am listed as a Science Pre-major on my unofficial. I don’t think I am a very competitive candidate, let alone a good enough candidate to hold my offer of admission.

I asked admissions, but they said that they can’t evaluate my situation until they receive my transcripts to compare to my application. I can’t send them my most current transcripts yet as I am attending Summer quarter and am paying tuition with a payment plan, so my transcripts are held til the school has all their money .

Has anyone come across this situation or heard of transfer offers being rescinded? I understand Freshman having offers rescinded because of senioritis, but motivation isn’t my issue. I am a nontraditional independent student with a family, so the best I am doing in school really is (sadly) my best!

Thanks everyone :)

I can’t say this is the answer your looking for, but, Honestly, be prepared for the worst, meaning, be prepared that they might rescind your admission. If you have the time and if UW is still your #1 choice, you could prepare an appeal letter to them.

I’ve actually been working on an apeal letter in case I got rejected because my grades weren’t so hot when I started college. Plus I thought I had a weak personal statement. But, I made sure to bust ass when I realized I wanted to pursue science.

What classes are you taking for summer? I finshed graduated with an Associates in Bio this spring, and plan on trying to major in Neurobiology (competitive)

I emailed the UW admissions office a while back and they said that engineers don’t hear back until the engineering department makes their decision. They said that if you get into engineering, you have a really good chance of getting in to UW’s general admissions. If you get rejected you have a much lower chance of getting in, 15% I read somewhere.

I’m pretty nervous! I have a little above a 3.53 with all the pre-reqs finished for aero and mechanical engineering. I also took all of the “recommended” classes such as Applied Numerical Methods, Calc IV, and Chem 1-3. I’ve taken 20 credit quarters while working lots hours so I think it shows that I have good work ethic. I feel confident but still very nervous and anxious about admitted! I wonder what my chances are! Good luck! Also, if you haven’t seen this link check it out. Very helpful for engineers. :)

@Johnnyjoestar Haha, a terrible possibility but you are right! I hadn’t thought of appealing, that is something I can keep in mind for sure if the worst comes to pass. What additional things do you have to do to apply for Neuro?

I am taking Chem 163, Phil 150 (ethics), and Bio 213. I do just fine in bio, my average thus far is 3.5 in the series, and all other classes I have taken have been generally good when I haven’t been deployed, giving birth, or getting divorced The trend is kind of clear in my transcripts when I haven’t been 100% dedicated to school.

I have been taking classes on and off since 2009, and have finally gotten out of the military, buckled down, and am ready to pursue an education I busted my butt to pay for. My aspirations have always been clear, but the journey has been pretty rough.

@UWTX2014
WOW!! That’s extremely tough what you’ve had to face!! But god, the benefits of the military paying for your schooling, that’s so great! I was considering ROTC or something, but I work horrible under pressure lol.
I need to take Calc 153 and some physics classes to apply.

The only advice I’d give if you want to appeal, 1) go on UW website and look up the requirements, 2) make sure your summer grades show improvement, 3) get letters of recommendations from

I went to get the mail today to find the big yellow envelope! I got two acceptance letters. One in a white envelope and one in yellow! I don’t know why! I am happy anyways!

Just got my Acceptance Letter!!! Now I’m waiting for my welcome packet…

Just discovered this thread a few months ago and I’m so glad I found out about the transcript trick. Mine loaded on saturday and I just got my acceptance letter today. Now just have to wait for that welcome packet.

Got my acceptance letter!!! Walkin’ on sunshine! Good luck to all those still waiting!

My letter came today too! I applied to engineering for those still waiting.

Hi everyone,
I’m a transfer from California waiting for my letter still. I’m wondering if I should call UW because I need to get started on housing at my backup school if I don’t get accepted. My unofficial transcript hasn’t loaded yet also.

SO, my transcript loaded tonight at 10:47.
I applied for the school of engineering and mechanical engineering yesterday. Maybe it is a coincidence that I my transcript loaded today or maybe it has something to do with that? Either way, for you other engineering students here are my stats:

Out of state transfer, from a community college that is on a quarter system.

3.6 GPA at the time of application

140 credits, a lot of them not pertaining to my major I thought that maybe they wouldn’t like how long I have been in school for, but I explained it well in my personal statement

Engineering courses completed - statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials
Physics - 1,2,3
Math - calc 1,2,3, Differential equations, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra

1 year of volunteer tutoring in physics and chemistry as well as 1 year as a “lab assistant” for differential calculus

I feel like my essay was really good, but I think everyone feels the same way!

Either way good luck to the rest of you still waiting!
