UWC Applicants for the 2013 school year!

@garyoak

Wow, congratulations!!!
What national committee are you from?

I’m a direct applicant, which is why my timeline is different than anyone else’s!

What do you mean by direct applicant?

I applied directly to Mahindra instead of through a committee.

@garyoak: just out of curiosity, why didn’t you apply through a national committee?
@mmrnz13: good luck, I hope it went really well!!
@janicechen: I might be going to Pearson next year! I’ve been shortlisted for one of three scholarships so fingers crossed

Well, just because of a specific situation I applied directly to Mahindra, but ALSO through the BC committee ( and I just heard that I was shortlisted for an interview!! :slight_smile: )

Hey guys! I got into muwci, which I’m really glad bout, but I don’t think I will be attending because I didn’t get a scholarship and it’s really expensive without.

Ahhhhhhhh I got accepted in a United World College!!! :smiley: I’ve known this for a week now but have had to keep it to myself, and it would be awkward if a fellow NZ applicant came across my post… Looks like i’ll be going to Mahindra (there is a very small chance that i could get into LPC)!!! I’m sooooo excited to go to any college!! New Zealand’s sending 2 people out this year, and I look forward to meeting everyone who’s going to be at Mahindra :)

I did ask them about that… Apparently it’s still yet to proceed, but the huge issue is that they don’t have enough funds to get it built :frowning: The person in charge is basically giving up, but a new person is going to take over. It will be extremely awesome if they build one in NZ!

Congratulations mmrnz13!! You are so lucky. You will have an amazing time. :)

Congratulations, mmrnz13! The photos of Mahindra on the UWC website make it look like a really special place. I think a rural setting is a great place for a UWC. I bet you’ll love it. My D didn’t go to her first choice but she didn’t look back after she was assigned. She has loved UWC USA.

I’ll be crossing my fingers all weekend for the U.S. applicants!

@ sellerofdreams

We’re in the same boat but I hope u get to go

@moramora - ooh yay! what national committee did you apply through? and what do you mean by shortlisted for 3 scholarships; do you mean 3 of the UWCs? :)

by the way,
this is the UWC 2013-2015 group for any prospective students ^^

When do the US applicants find out whether they’re accepted??? :’) Which major countries are yet to release their results?

US applicants find out on Tuesday, April 23rd (this week) by e-mail, most likely sent in the afternoon. The selection team met this weekend in Denver.

@mmrnz13 !!! so exciting! We’ll be co years :D

I’m not trying to be horrible here Doctor Y (honest!) but just playing devil’s advocate! Do you think that some of the responsibility lay on your child’s shoulders to become informed about IB entrance standards before he/she went to a school which offered the IB (about 35 points for a less prestigious university, Oxbridge Cambridge want closer to 40)? I agree it was wrong to misinform him/her, but if I wanted to study a programme, I’d work out how hard it was to get the results I needed first…

I’m certainly not a ‘very rich’ student and will attend a college with a full scholarship, not to get connections. Obviously there are problems with the UWC organisation, but generalising and alienating people isn’t going to make it any better. These ‘young adult volunteers’ had had training in the selections process, and maybe, as graduates of the UWC movement, they knew enough about it to select graduates, as oppose to teachers who had only experienced one college? Someone else was saying that the volunteers were only 3 years older than themselves- well, a lot can change in three years! I don’t think age plays a huge part in it, and perhaps the selections will be more accurate because these younger people are more able to see how others will cope in the UWC environment…

As to publicising UWC, that could and should be done by alumni and example, as well as advertising… But not many schools are going to want people to come in and talk about the UWC movement, which would take to top line of students off their 6th form!

Visiting a child with AIDS doesn’t help, but education, support and friendship does! I think the UWC movement is about keeping a core of students working away at problems, as the previous years leave. Surely this is better than doing a week long programme and then just leaving?

I’ve been lurking around for a while, but felt obliged to say something at last because I was struggling with the way UWC was being represented…

Really stressing out about the UWC USA results. I havent done homework all week and have actually just sat around staring at the wall hoping I get in.

T minus 2 days.

Hang in there! I know the feeling and I’m a parent of an applicant! I think my son is too busy to dwell on it too much but I have felt a little distracted lately. ;)

I totally understand :frowning: these last few weeks, all i wanted to do was go online and look at videos of various collleges haha. The stress will get worse, but then it will get better either way. Breathe extra!
