We lived in Austin at the time of the Whitman sniping incident at the UT tower. My dad, a rabbi, had to go down to the scene to comfort relatives of a young woman who was killed in that event. This is bringing back ALL of those memories…I simply cannot believe this. My heart is BREAKING… :(

One of the news channels said university web site is being used to communicate to the students and keep them updated - asked the general public to please avoid visiting the school’s site so it doesn’t get overloaded. Campus is on lockdown, and some students are stuck where they are with the Internet as their only source of info from laptops.

I just called my son at Roanoke to hear his voice. He had only heard the first report about one death and was shocked when I told him about the updated news. Every parents nightmare.

They said he shot most of the students execution style looking for his girlfriend. As bad as this situation is, we can only hope it was a jilted lover and not terrorist act.

This just makes me sick. My D watched the Columbine tragedy unfolding live on TV and it had a terrible effect on her. This churns it all up again.

So, so sad for Virginia Tech and all their students, employees, alums, and local residents. You never get over something this awful.

My sister goes to Tech. Today because of the weather in Va we got out 3 hours early, generally celebratory mood. My friend was on the phone with her mom and I got initial word of this, and we immediately contacted my sister, who is okay. I did not know the maginitude until just now. Her best friend was in the building and no one can get ahold of her. I am shaking right now. It is terrifying. I can’t believe this happened. This is twice we have been scared out of our minds this school year. It’s just so random and hard to get ahold of. I don’t know what to think or say, but it’s just so terrible. There is a very real chance that I know people who have been victims in this. I haven’t even heard about the hundred other kids from my school at Tech. What a terrible thing to happen. Over 50 people wounded and killed. It’s so close to the end of the year too. I just keep thinking…how many of those were seniors that had just about two weeks left? So close…it’s just unimaginable. On one hand you are just relieved that your own family is safe, on the other hand people you know are still in danger and you don’t even know how to grieve for the families who weren’t as lucky…

This is so tragic and it just keeps getting worse. They aren’t sure of the number of wounded, they are only counting the ones that have been taken to the hospital. There still could be walking wounded. The ones killed were killed execution style. This is the deadliest college shooting in history! These students and families are going to need so much support. Please keep them in your prayers.
