Updated again: 29 dead, 28 wounded, 4 in critical condition.

Sad, horrifying and, yes, it is too easy to get a gun in this country, especially a semi-automatic or automatic if that is what this was.

So close to home for all of us. But my prayers go out to all who are actually living this nightmare with relatives or friends at Va Tech. Heartbreaking.

Dean J - will your school and others closeby be setting up extra counseling for your students and staff? It seems like a tragedy like this will have far reaching effects across the state because so many will know one of the victims or a member of their families. This is painful from far away, I cannot begin to imagine the pain that is being felt throughout your state. So much potential lost.

No words, only tears …

32 confirmed now, the count rises every second.

Where did you hear 32 dead?

Fox News has on the front of the screen Feds confirm 32 dead

Having a child away in college my heart is broken for the families of all involved, students and faculty. Our prayers are with you.

Questions are already arising in my mind, how do you sit there as they shoot several people execution style? If you knew that you were going to die, why not try to subdue this yahoo? Something is very fishy here.

This nightmare just keeps getting worse, and I keep second guessing what the police could have/ should have/ might have done. As if there were some way to prevent this kind of thing…

I have just made a donation, in memory of the dead at Virginia Tech, to the national campaign of the Million Mom March, which is part of the Brady campaign to prevent gun violence. All donations are being matched so they are worth double what we give. I encourage all of you who are sorrowful today to do the same: http://www.millionmommarch.org. Still weeping here…

There has to be multiple shooters, you just don’t kill 32 people and injure 29 people with a handgun. Someone else is out there.

KENT - nothing fishy here at all - The shooter has a gun - the victim doesn’t!!
Supposedly there were 2 identified - one in custody?? one dead - I can’t imagine as well that just one person has done all this horrendous damage to soo many lives

Things at VT have been scary - another gun situation - bomb threats last week - now this :(

This is an unspeakable tragedy. I called my D at college in Boston just to hear her voice. No school today due to Patriot’s Day. They were out supporting the Tufts Marathon team. Now, they are sitting glued to the news. Her dorm neighbors are from VA. She asked me why it is so easy for a young person, probably another college student, to get his hands on a semi-automatic weapon.

Her question: “I just don’t know how you can explain to a parent of a VT student killed today, why someone has a right to own a semi-automatic weapon.” How can anyone really believe that?"

I couldn’t give her a logical answer. There is no logic to explain this sort of horrific event. Preventable, maybe not. Fewer killed/injured…absolutely. No one needs to own a semi-automatic weapon.

Pray for the families of the VT students.
Pray for our leaders to have the courage to do something to stop the tide of violence!

This is beyond fathomable. Like many, we have friends with kids there. A student at our school is from that area, and has many, many friends at VT. Apparently, he’s walking around in shock right now.

I don’t even know what to say…except to pray for the families, and the injured.

A sad, sad day.

I just read the news about this horrible, horrible incident online…truly every parents worst nightmare. My thoughts and prayers go out to the VT students and staff, along with their families.

My husband is an FBI agent currently working in DC. He said 32 deceased, and they only have one suspect (deceased) at this particular point in time. Everything is on-going.

My sympathies to all VT students, parents, and alumni.

They are now calling it the worst shooting period (not just school shooting), in American history.

I called my son between his classes–he was horrified and has some friends who are engineering students there. His college cable is out, so he is having to rely on internet for news.

I, of course, went on my tirade about all guns should be dumped in ocean. His response was that it is too late in US to get rid of all the guns out there and most “unsavory” or unstable people don’t come by them legally anyway. His immediate response was that he wanted to get hand gun training and have a permit–that led to an argument, which I stopped and just told him that I am so glad he is safe, I love him and we can resume our gun control debate at a later date.

TTM I stand corrected - this was reported on the local news here earlier
