Vacation ideas

Looking for ideas for two weeks’ vacation second half of June. We like to see vibrant cities and beautiful nature, but don’t like camping, shopping or spending time on a beach. We visited all California’s and New England cities already, along with Portland, Seattle, Michigan and some Canada. Never travel south, but I think it is going to be hot and humid this time of the year. Trying to avoid long flights, so not looking for European vacation this time. Thank you.

Not sure where you are travelling from but I might suggest Montreal/Quebec City or Toronto/Niagara on the Lake and then on the West Coast of Canada Vancouver/Victoria.

Not that it cannot be hot at that time of year but it is always great to visit Chicago.

Not a whole lot of vibrant cities, but Montana and Wyoming offer a ton of breathtaking nature to enjoy. If you have never been to Yellowstone, you should add it to your must see list.

Thank you @bookmama22 . We really enjoyed visiting Canada few years ago.

Never been to Yellowstone @BunsenBurner . Adding it to the list.

Nova Scotia?

I know you said no Europe but Ireland is a shorter flight compared to other countries and that is a great time to visit.

If you go to Yellowstone, also visit the Grand Tetons. Fabulous hiking.

If it’s for this year you are late to the party for a Yellowstone/Tetons trip. The time to plan is at least 10 months in advance for the in-park lodging choices.

Second for a Vancouver/Victoria trip with a couple days in Whistler thrown in. Calgary/Banff/Lake Louise also makes a nice trip.

What about Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada? If you’re into nature (hiking, whale watching, iceberg watching, etc.) it seems like it would be beautiful! The Viking site is also there, and I imagine that the seafood is amazing! (In case you can’t tell, I’d really like to go there myself!)

@Magnetron is correct - for visits to popular national parks, you have to plan in advance!

Victoria/Vancouver/Whistler can be done with less advanced planning.

Love the idea about Newfoundland and Labrador @apresski ! Yes, we are looking for ideas for next month. I know, we are late, but just got two weeks vacation approved so need to make the best of it!

Alaska by land or by cruise. I find cruises very relaxing as i don’t need to plan anything once I get to the ship.

I don’t know where you are departing from, so i don’t know how far each of these options would be, but my 2 other suggestions would be Hawaii (there’s a ton more to do than visit beaches) or Iceland.

Thank you @bouders Traveling from California.

Jackson Hole Wyoming, Crater Lake, Aspen or Boulder, and …Cinncinati! (yes, really!)

You want to go THIS June? Getting lodging near those national parks could be a challenge!

Alaskan cruise sounds great.

I am not set on national parks. I love explore different cities as well. Between my DH and me, it is very difficult to plan vacation together, so we just got those two weeks that we both can take on a short notice. I know it is late to plan, but we can try. We loved our New England – Canada vacation one year, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Lake Tahoe - another, Michigan road trip few years back. We wanted to go south and visit Atlanta, Charleston, New Orleans, but afraid it will be hot and humid at the end of June. I don’t know if it is going to be as humid as in Orlando in June, but it was very difficult to handle for us not used to this type of weather.

Patagonia.

How about a cruise to Alaska out of Vancouver BC? It is a great city to explore for a couple of days after your return.

We just came back from trip to San Antonio and Austin. Loved it - especially Austin. But, probably too hot by mid June and to get anywhere else from there is a long drive.

I’m guessing you’ve already driven the Pacific coast.
How about a couple of Hawaiian islands? Maui and Kauai are awesome.

I was in Orlando the last two weeks of June…twice (for different reasons… it my choice or control). It’s hot…and humid. But there are NO crowds at the theme parks!

What about Santa Fe? Sure…it will be hot…but it’s such a neat place!
