Vaccine skeptic to lead commission on vaccination safety

Better make sure your own vaccines are up to date, since it looks like the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases being spread by unvaccinated people may increase over the next few years.

It just gets weirder and weirder

I am not one bit surprised.

Sure, when you have a climate change denier who has sued the EPA nominated to be in charge of the agency and a guy who opposes the Voting Rights Act in charge of enforcing it how can moves like the above be a surprise?

I guess these people skipped the seminar on how to produce peer-reviewed journal articles.

We can go back to the good old days when people first spread and then died from easily preventable diseases. RFK Jr’s’ ancestors must be spinning in their graves.

As someone who is immune-compromised, this scares the bejesus out of me

Sometimes I feel like I’m living in one of those apocalyptic novels where it starts with something along the lines of “the signs were all there, but everyone ignored them…” and some character named Cassandra, not being listened to.

From what I’ve read, maybe RFK Jr doesnt need to consider personal inoculations because he inoculated himself with drugs and women.

Absolutely, garland. That thought has been torturing me for weeks.

once ACA is dismantled, no one will be able to get vaccinated anyway? But seriously, II’ve run out of synonyms for abhorrent, idiotic, and self-centered. God help us.

I have no words…unfortunately vaccine skeptics are well represented in upper class folks who think they are well educated but who never really understood science. (@teriwtt , I’d b wiling to bet he never took a class with a seminar about peer-reviewed journals)
They think that their opinion ought to be worth as much as the average PhD in Imunology, since they are richer and more concerned about their precious snowflakes.

LOL, @garland, me too! And I don’t even read apocalyptic fiction – yet it’s all I can think about!

It just seems like it’s “in” to be anti-science in certain circles. Don’t get what’s behind that

One recurring theme over the past 6 months is that a certain segment of the population is tired of being “lectured” and “told what to do” by people who are experts. They do not acknowledge the authority that the term “expert” engenders, they reject it. This latest announcement is by far the most frightening, as it has the potential to harm public health for generations to come. Imagine if pharmaceutical companies were to be dissuaded from developing new vaccines because of this.

Trying to inform people about that FALSE and thoroughly discredited story linking autism and vaccines seems to be like playing whack-a-mole. Just when you think you’ve gotten it, it pops up its head again! And now the fox is guarding the hen house.

At times like this, I’m grateful for state governments. So glad that California has tightened vaccine restrictions for schools.

That’s what I don’t get, and maybe it’s because I’ve been married to a Ph.D. scientist for almost 33 years. If I have a problem in my life, I want to go to the most educated person in that community for my questions and answers. That’s not limited to health-related items, but any other issue where there are decades of proven research - such as climate change, fossil fuels, energy, food science, etc. Why would I take the word of some hobby-level pontificator over the word of those who have spent decades researching something. I’m I naive enough to think research hasn’t gotten things wrong before? Of course not, just look at what has come about in regards to eating eggs, and diet in general. But as science discovers new things to refute the old things, they come forward (for the most part). The anti-vax community has been presented with proven science over and over again, and from many different sources and countries. So there’s no conspiracy theory going on here. Why this guy will be allowed to have a voice at the table dumbfounds me.

California might have to build a wall to keep people from going to or coming in from other states.

Jersey’s always had a strict vaccine law, thankfully.

Don’t be surprised if tomorrow’s addition to this ‘commission’ is Jenny McCarthy!
