Hi Parent Cafe friends. I’m hoping you will have some good vacuum hints.

My mom bought a new canister model a few years ago, but it is too heavy/bulky for her to use in her small apartment. She has offered to give it to my daughter for her new apartment, and I will be buying a new upright for mom’s birthday. She just has normal dust, no pets. Any suggestions?

I bought a shark navigator for my aunt about 2 years ago. She was 94 and able to vacuum her wall to wall carpet and empty the canister easily. Try to look on amazon for the reviews and different types of vacuums available.

My 87-year-old mother recently gave me her Shark Profesional when she moved into her senior living facility. After seeing how nimble it was upon first use, I immediately retired my Hoover and Kenmore!

I recently bought a shark navigator - 12 pounds so not too heavy. It works well and moves around well. The suction is really strong- H managed to suck the battery charging cord on our computer up and around the roller bar in a split second (and it isn’t removable). I finally got it out but geez. You have several options for carrying it, doing stairs, using attachments, etc. so far we really like it.

Thanks! I did not know about Sharks, but they get great reviews.

I too am confused about the various models. I liked “Shark Rotator Professional Upright Vacuum, NV400” because it said quiet and 30 foort cord, but one reviewer said “HEAVY”. We definitely want light.

I liked my Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Rewind… that is until I took the Shark Professional Rotator for a test drive. The Shark is like driving a sports car versus driving a full-size sedan. It is also a lot more versatile and easier to clean.

Could some of you PLEASE post the model numbers of the Sharks you like? There are MANY different models on amazon…of each of the names you have mentioned!

colorado, my grandmom uses this for her upstairs since her normal vacuum is too heavy to take up and down:

Eureka Bagless Boss 3-in-1 Stick Vacuum

She does have cats and it seems to do OK. It’s very cheap so if it breaks it’s not bad to buy a new one.

I had a shark when in college and it did a nice job. Unfortunately I don’t know the model number but I’m sure they don’t make mine anymore. I’m not sure if LG makes a light weight vacuum but i have one of theirs for my house (it’s quite heavy). It is amazing and picks up everything.

thumper1, I replied to your PM. I couldn’t find a model no. anywhere on my Shark vac itself. The manual is probably buried in a folder somewhere among dozens of other manuals my dad kept. I remember seeing the Shark Professional at Costco recently but they change the brands available quite frequently. I believe it sold for around $170.

I recall reading that Oreck has filed for bankruptcy protection and is looking for a buyer. I’m wondering if there will be any offers or they will just quietly go away for good?

So…which Shark model should I compare to? I’d be willing to spend a little more for the birthday gift if better. Soooo many Shark models online and in the stores too.

If any recent Shark purchasers have links or model #, that would be great ;)
