Valedictorian

Advice for speech? If you’ve given a graduation speech, what did you talk about? If you attended a graduation ceremony, what kind of speeches were given?

What is must be like to work so hard for an honor that no one will care about by this fall? Perhaps brainstorming lame ways that you will insert “I was the valedictorian” into conversations with new college classmates? As a former sal, I’m just fooling with you - congrats on doing so well.

thanks! and bump

I have to share that I was valedictorian of my class - 1980. I was proud of my hard work, but didn’t think a lot about it. I was very shy in high school and not very popular. I was surprised when I went back for my 30th HS reunion how many people remembered that I had been #1. Several people said, “I want to get my picture with the valedictorian!” And they weren’t being snarky. One guy, who teased me mercilessly in HS, told me he’d always admired me and wanted me to know it!

So congratulations! I can’t remember my speech well at all. I gave it with one of my best friends, who was salutatorian. I was going to UT and she was going to A&M - the schools are big rivals, so we had fun with that.
