I’m making colassal sized shrimp scampi for my H and S2 (a h.s. soph) and sent a box of Cheryl’s cookie’s to S1 at college. H & I exchanged boxes of chocolates. I’ve never tried See’s either. Is it in local stores around the country or just by mail order?

We frequently repeat cards since H and I have made arbitrary rules on the cards we get each other. I insist that there be a photo of a monkey on it. No drawings…must be a photograph. This year the monkey card had monkey sound effects when you open it. We ARE nuts, but it keeps things interesting.

Count me as another, who just found out son must be seeing someone special. Unless it’s my meatloaf…

See’s has local stores in California. My favorite is their dark chocolate assortment.

DH brought me a lovely bouquet last night- it was my birthday. They lucky guy gets to mark off two flower-giving occasions at one time.
I love flowers and never tire of getting them.
I bought some NY steaks which I’ll serve with mushrooms, organic broccoli and greens from my “farm box,” baked potatoes, a bottle of Cabernet and cheesecake for dessert. I bought a humorous card for him. He’s had a very busy week, and a quiet dinner at home will be more appealing to him than a dinner out, I’m sure, and I’ve already had a couple of birthday meals out, so I’m also happy to stay home and relax tonight. I’ve always like having my birthday close to Valentine’s Day. It makes for a very fun week.

And it’s only TUESDAY.

See’s chocolates-- use to buy them at LAX (airport). Now they are in my local mall. My favorite local chocolate store is Hoffman’s. Our office manager left a choco covered strawberry in my office today. So sweet…

My 92 y.o. client looked thru her collection of cards from hubby. They always made their own.Wonderful memories. I think they will be cherished by her children and grandchildren more than anything else she may leave them.

Sees has a store in CT! OK…that could get me to the mall.

My HS senior son brought home a card he made in German class, and he stopped and picked up a bouquet for me. Wow, what did I do?

I really don’t put much thought into whether Valentine’s Day has become too commercial. I’ve always thought of it as a fun break from the winter doldrums. H has already sent flowers and is coming home early (for a change). I bought some yummy looking cake pops at the local gourmet store. No fancy dinner or elaborate gifts.

I just got home, and there was a nice bouquet for me too. I guess H sent my confirmation to D2. D2 got a nice yellow bouquet. D1 emailed me to let know that H stopped off at her office to give her flowers before he left for his next stop(H was in NY for business then off to the west coast). I guess H felt pretty bad to be away.

Went through this thread, glad to hear people are having a nice day, especially news on some budding romance here. Very surprise LongPrime hasn’t popped in here yet about his son.

G&T and a walk on the beach for sunset, very nice :)

See’s Butterscotch Square, yum! I ordered a custom See’s box for my mother and in the ultimate sacrifice did not even include my #1 choice. I guess I am really a grown up.

TCM (Top Hat), Cotes due Rhone '06, porterhouse steak, spinach, baked potato, Sees, and thou. Beautiful Valentines with my sweetie pie. **

And starbright, not one of those inspirations were garnered from a commercial.

So… while part of my prediction came through (we really are slaving away at the library), my boyfriend ended up spending a large chunk of the time I was at work writing a poem for me, using calligraphy which we’re currently learning in a class (and by that I mean that we’ve had one lesson haha). It looks beautiful and if he had to do something for me today, this was a wonderful thing to do!

Both of my parents texted Happy Valentine’s Day to me and we’re treating each other to dinner this weekend before a Piston’s game.

Now back to analyzing Holinshed’s Chronicles :(

We went out to dinner and then my sweet husband surprised me with a card and candy.

I was completely overwhelmed when I returned home last night after a 13 hour day - there was a path of rose petals leading from the garage up the stairs and several dozen tea lights along the way…Yes, we are empty nesters! H is worried that he raised the bar so high he won’t know what to do next year!

Yes, I think that one would be hard to top. Very nice.

Thats sweet :)

We went on a weekend vacation last summer and the hotel put rose pedals on the bed in the shape of a heart and made a trail down the hall. We think maybe they had us confused with someone else!

Wow! I am seriously impressed.

We like the idea of Valentine’s day! A day to take pause and appreciate the special person in your life. That is not to say that we don’t do it on so many other days. Valentine’s day happens a lot in my house as does Christmas and other holidays. What is not to like about it?

I’m only teasing you about this because I know you know the difference, but my first thought was that you were on a cycling vacation! :)
