I would not expect it to change as Vanderbilt uses CSS, so they don’t really need FAFSA since they can do all calculations from CSS
D24 admitted RD
1530 SAT
4.3 GPA
16 APs (mostly 5s)
NMF
Prestigious internship
Highly competitive inner city public school
FA counselor name listed in portal.
Unfortunately, the FA offer is nowhere near enough that we can afford it. We’re going to call and appeal but we’ve run the numbers backwards and forwards and the cost is so far beyond our means it’s not even in the realm of possibility. (We ran the NPC in advance but VU advertises how generous they are with aid/merit and the only way to know for sure how much it would actually cost was to apply. D24 also applied to every scholarship they offered, but was not selected).
DD admitted RD with two merit scholarships
TO
International
No GPA or class ranking avail but pretty much ‘perfect’ GCSE grades and predicted A levels
Very spikey EC at national/international level over course of many years
Part time job for two years
School leadership positions
With Vanderbilt being a CSS school, FAFSA would just be confirmation of any award they issue based on the CSS.
Sorry to hear that, but I would definitely appeal. I know Vanderbilt just implemented a policy that guarantees full tuition if your family makes 150k or less and you get a decent amount even if the family makes 200 or more. Of course everyone has a different situation with assets, debt, etc but I would definitely call and speak to financial aid. They will try to help if they can.
Definitely plan to appeal. But we are UMC (MC in HCOL big city) with multiple children. Too “rich” for FA but not wealthy enough to afford it, despite what VU’s CSS formula believes Fortunately she has many affordable options at state schools.
3.7% RD admit rate
mid 50% sat: 1530 - 1600
yikes !
Where did you see this data?
Based on the middle 50% SAT score provided:
25% SAT 1530
75% SAT 1600
Are they real?
But remember its only those that submitted scores (and last year’s CDS shows only 25% of enrolled freshman submitted scores). Its a function of being test optional, only the highest scores are being reported anymore.
That 3.7% though is gut wrenching, I so wish we had been in a position to be able to do ED.
Vandy takes many more test optional than peer schools, around 40 percent last cycle.
I realize it. Did not expect only 25% submit test scores. Thought it would be 2/3.
In comparison, MIT has middle 50% at 1520-1580, although that’s for every applicant.
I looked up Vandy statistics. Niche says 25% applicants submit SAT, and 32% ACT.
That RD admit rate is crazy!
For waitlisted students, is just emailing a LOCI all that is recommended?
I know Vanderbilt doesn’t ask for mid year reports but if the school counselor sent them to all schools on the CSS profile, does this mean they already have them? Trying to decide if my kid should include them in the loci but don’t want to be repetitive.
I would if it’s a good midyear report- think it can’t hurt and ensures they see it.
Thank you
S24 tells me only one parent can go to anchor day. Is it bad form to call and ask if both parents can come? I’ve never seen the campus.
We have the same question. Both parents would love to go and see the campus
