any backups/safeties?

not really. I guess Fordham is my only safety. Every other school I applied to has lower transfer acceptance rates than Vanderbilt so I can assume I’m in a lot of trouble.

oh crap… looks like I’m heading back to community colllege this fall =/

well, congratulations to everyone who got in. It was fun to be a part of this transfer thread :)

don’t give up yet!!
try grinnell, franklin&marshall, and case western
their app deadlines are coming up

Beren: did your letter specifically say that you are waitlisted or did it just say to send your spring grades?

everyone who got rejected: did your letter say to send spring grades or just just got flat out rejected?

thanks everyone.

My letter said:
The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application for admission by transfer, and I am sorry to inform you that you have not been offered admission.

Followed by a paragraph about how Vanderbilt is honored that I applied, etc etc etc

Ugh, I feel like crap right now… I’m not giving up though, if worse comes to worse and I don’t get into any of the schools I wanted to go to, I’ll just go back to my CC next year, continue taking 200 level courses in anything and try to get 2 straight 4.0s and boost my cumulative GPA through 3 years of school to a 3.83-3.85.
Maybe if I can do all that and write MUCH better essays this time around and not half-ass them like I did back in September, I’ll have a shot at a dream school like Penn or Northwestern.

Vanderbilt didnt require an essay though.

are you sure about that?

The common application essay

My letter said this:
Altough you are not being offered admission at this time, we would like to offer you a place on our wait list. We encourage you to submit additional spring grades as quickly as they become available.
I also got another paper including faq’s about the wait list.
I’m going to send in my spring grades May 3. Hopefully I’ll hear back soon.

rbkhoops: I just called and left a message with an admissions counselor so hopefully she’ll call me back soon. The first person that answered the phone said that sending in grades mid-June is fine, but I’m wondering the same thing as you… If I’m sending in spring grades just to be put on a waitlist I’m sending in a deposit elsewhere and forgetting about Vanderbilt

Waitlisted. Booooo

km1730: yeah, im not sure if this is a waitlist. i don’t even know if they even looked at our application. why would they do this? so unclear what the intention is…

let me know when you find out. i will try to find out too.

The wording on my waitlist letter was a bit diffrent that some of the ones posted before

"The office of undergraduate admissions has received your application for admission by transfer to Vanderbilt university for the fall semester of 2010. Before we can make a final decision on your application, we will require your spring semester grades from your current institution. As soon as we receive an official transcript from your current institution which includes your spring grades, we will reach a final decision on your application.

We appreciate your patience as a candidate under serious consideration for admission. You will receive a decision as soon as possible after this final review."

skatergirl: yeah i got that letter too. so did another person. we’re not sure if that is a waitlist or just a spring grade request…

because the waitlist letter specifically said that it was a waitlist. but we got a spring grade request…

do you know anything? can you find out with us?

Maybe they have a weird way of admitting students - they have a ginormous waitlist and see who REALLY wants to go to vandy so much that they’d be willing to waitlist themselves.

Theory

Skater girl and rbkhoops:

I talked to the admissions counselor today and she said “it kind of like being on the waitlist…” not too much help. I kind of feel like its in between the waitlist and being accepted? I hope haha. But anyway she said since my semester ends so late I can send the common app mid year report and they’ll be able to decide from that within a few weeks. And she said the decision will either be accepted or not, we won’t be waitlisted

Hey fellow waitlistees - I think I’m gonna unwaitlist myself. I’m headed to UNC. I hope me leaving helps you all out! :)

km1730: sounds good. i guess we can just send in our grades in process. i am on a quarter system so i end in mid june also…

I will call admissions tomorrow too. I will let you know.

Like you said, I hope this is like something between a waitlist and an acceptance. haha

It just means they are seriously considering you for admission and they believe that the spring grades will help them in making the final decision. I think if that’s the email you got you should have a decent shot at getting in.
And I still haven’t recieved my decision yet ![]()
this wait is terrible

talha318: really you think that they are seriously considering us? that would be amazing…
