Vanderbilt Transfer Fall 2010

@talha318: Thanks for the encouragement! I did call and let the admissions counselor that I was still very much interested. I also sat down yesterday and today and wrote a kick a** letter of interest to send to them. If this doesn’t get me in, nothing will!

Also, do you think I should email the letter of interest or snail mail it? or both?

hmmm, i wonder why they gave out different reply by dates.

I would personally mail it like super priority mail so that it gets there like within 3 days or so. And then I’d email my counselor to notify that you are still very interested and eager to hear a good decision from vandy and then notify that you’ve written a letter of continued interest expressing your interest which is on its way? Or you could just leave out the email which is probably what I’d end up doing if I was in your situation.

have you asked your counselor if theres anything you as the applicant can do further? Because if he/she said simply no there really isn’t anything you can do then I guess a letter isn’t necessary but i’d still send one because it can’t hurt?
do you know how they select people off of the waitlist? is it just random??

A new article concerning transfers has been posted! I hope this helps in any way it can!

[Admissions office makes transfer decisions | InsideVandy](Inside Vandy)

its got some great info about how many people applied and how many vandy expects to attend!

nice that provides useful information. As for transfers not attending orientation I plan on attending. I don’t really see why you would not.

Yeah I don’t see why you wouldn’t attend either. Its a great way to meet other transfer and make a whole bunchonewfriends. its going to be awhhhsome

thanks for posting the article

have any of you gotten your financial aid package?
i submitted my fasfa back in march but did my css only yesterday, how long does it take them to respond? also, do you know about what kind of housing we get, singles or doubles?

If you did the css yesterday, like I did. They will get it by Thursday and a fin aid package will probably be ready by next Monday or Tuesday. Housing we have to register for and I think we can request a single room but I doubt we will have a large choice because all of the other students, non transfers, have already filed for housing. But we WILL get a housing assignment. I’m probably going to request a single room, I get up at like 5am almost everytime I can even if stayed up to like 430am haha

im pretty sure kissam is the least desirable place to live and as such they have made all rooms singles there and thats most likely where we will live.

From reading the Vandy board threads about housing, two things are apparent:

1) People overwhelmingly regard Kissam as the worst dorm to live in at Vanderbilt.
2) Most transfer students are housed in singles in Kissam on the same floor(s) as each other.

This makes me wonder two things:

a) Why is Kissam regarded so unfavorably?
b) Would it be best to request Kissam as a transfer student just to be around other transfer students, despite Kissam’s apparent wackness?

The following link suggests that much is being done to improve the “Kissam Experience” especially since the new Commons is creating postive feedback for its community feel.

Ehnn I don’t think kissam could be THAT bad
if it’s really that isolated i think I’m going to make a much larger effort to get to know people hah.
So what states are most of you coming from?

Coming from nj!! But transferring from Belmont university in Nashville!

JUST GOT IN!!! Coming from Miami of Ohio!!!

MUengmaj did it come in the mail or did you call your counselor?

yeah, i just doubt Kissam could be that bad, however the mention of mold and ringworm is definitely not encouraging. I can imagine exactly what it will be like having gone through similar experiences sure its not the greatest but you make do with you have. Coming from a huge campus where my freshman dorm was a mile and half from most of my friends and my classes were mostly a 20-25 minute walk in either summer heat and humidity or bitterly cold winter.

Transferring from belmont?? Hey I went to lipscomb my first semester we’re “ex-rivals” haha

and yeah the dorms can’t be THAT bad I mean the university has more than enough money to upgrade/fix any problem at all…

I hope I get to meet all of you at orientation!!

Coming from University of Memphis.
