I transferred here last year, so I’ll just answer a few questions and leave a comment or two…

“Would anyone know how difficult obtaining a job on campus is? Do transfers have more difficulty in being hired?”

Some of the better jobs, such as the ones working at the front desk of dorms or in the library, have already been filled for the next semester/year, so those jobs aren’t available. Most jobs though are available for transfers. Bookstore sucks at the beginning of the semester, but is pretty relaxed after that.

As for the transfer housing…

Most of the transfers I knew wound up either in Kissam singles or in Towers I and II converted doubles. A small minority of girls also ended up in VandyBarnard. Anyway, I ended up with a converted double in Towers II and my roommate never showed up, so I had the room to myself. I think most junior transfers wound up in Towers. The room was hotdogish in that it was pretty long but not that wide. Overall, my room was pretty nice. While most people hate on Kissam, the rooms aren’t bad. They might not be the best rooms on campus, but they’re very livable.

AXLE and easy classes…

AXLE just plain sucks. Luckily, most of my credits transferred so I had the majority of my AXLE requirements completed. For the Writing portion, I recommend SOC 102W w/ Spetalnick or ENGL 118W w/ Jellerson. For the Perspective portion, I recommend WGS 150 w/ Jellerson. Anything w/ Jellerson, basically. For the International portion, I recommend SOC 277 w/ Klass. Like Jellerson, I’d take any class w/ Klass.

In terms of really easy classes that you probably wouldn’t consider…ENGM 244 and CS 151 are pretty easy. In fact, my friend actually got an A+, with like a 101, in CS 151. Only bad thing is that I heard my friends prof isn’t teaching the class next semester.

Little tidbits…
In case you’re unfamiliar with the weather in Nashville, it rains often, sometimes several days in a row. I’d make sure to pack appropriate footwear, jackets, umbrellas, etc…
The places around campus get boring really fast, so if you have a car, I’d definitely recommend bringing it. Then again, I didn’t have a meal plan, so I always ate out, so those with a meal plan might not get bored.

*Oh, and if you guys have any specific questions, I’ll try to answer them. I used to be an econ major but I recently designed my own major. And please no ‘What’s Vandy like?’ or ‘How’s the Greek life there?’ type questions.
