Kev, you may technically be a freshman credit wise but you will still be a second year right?

im going to be a sophomore transfer student to vanderbilt school of engineering. I went to Colby College up in Maine, a good liberal arts school and whatnot. Anyways, I have no idea if any of you will have an answer to my question, but im nervous as ****. I was accepted to vandy, but im worried they will rescind my acceptance because I got an F this semester. This isn’t normal at all, and all my other grades throughout high school and college are fine…I got 2 As, a B, and then and F in chemistry. Does anyone know how strict vanderbilt is with acceptances and whatnot? I’m explaining to them why I got and it stuff, and am going to chem at a local college, but I reallllly would like an answer to this question ASAP.

Thanks guys, and I hope to see you all in the fall…

@hahaha i don’t know, kinda confused, i mean ,i may still be a first- year student at vandy but it’s just not the first year i have been in college.

@Kevin, yeah I’d assume since they say first year or second year, that would mean how many years youve been in college, as opposed to writing freshman or sophomore…idk

@sno, what have they said about you making the F? Since you are retaking it, you should be alright.

Could you guys chance me for Fall 2011 transfer?

Vanderbilt is honestly my choice one school, and up until now I thought I had a pretty decent chance. But here goes: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/935621-need-some-maaaajor-transfer-advice-am-i-track.html#post1064954663

i wait, therefore i am

just saw that i have a missed call from the dean of A&S. freaking out. anyone know what this could be? i hope im not getting revoked or anything like that. i already have my email and everything.

@koven, maybe its your advisor
I believe A&S advisors are the asst deans until we get our own, mine contacted me today as well, although it was via email.

was it just to touch base and get in touch? if so, im sure thats what mine was doing.

yeah, i emailed her a while back and she responded. im sure its nothing to worry about.

did anyone else get a packet today with some registration information and your advisor’s name? I also got a “transfer checklist” that I have to sign and send back to Vandy. When should we hear about housing?

Melvin, I got that packet as well.
The website says beginning of August

to the person who had the F second semester in a class…did you ever hear back from vanderbilt regarding the grade? I’d find it hard to imagine them rejecting anyone this far into the process unless there were extreme circumstances

I just found out that my Vandy transfer application was incomplete (missing a teacher rec). I emailed a teacher and he is sending the rec this week. Even though admissions is rolling, do you guys think I still have a chance? Its way past the priority date (when all my other stuff was sent in by), but I found something that said they’d welcome my application anytime, although they’d rather have it in by May 27. :(

Doesn’t hurt to try.
Are you on the waitlist or did they never give you a decision? What are your stats?

OK, here’s what happened.
On the admissions website, it says it is fine to send in secondary school recommendations, although they would prefer college professor recs. I had 2 recs sent in January, along with my high school transcript. I then got an email from Vandy 2 or 3 weeks ago saying that I still was missing one recommendation (which was obviously a mistake, since I had 2 sent in January). I just emailed my English professor from my Spring semester, and he’s going to send a rec for me so there’s no discrepancy about the situation. I also submitted my SGR today. I emailed my admissions counselor and explained the whole situation, and asked if I’m still eligible for Fall admission, and said I’m really interested in Vandy and I’d hate to ruin my chances because of miscommunication (phrased more eloquently, of course).

Stats:
HS GPA: 3.1 UW 3.3W
College GPA: 3.65UW, 2 semesters of college
SAT: CR 650 W 690 M 520
APs: Spanish Lang (3), English Lit (3), Studio Art (3)
Major(s): Psychology (CAS) and Child Studies (Peabody), maybe a minor in Art.
Extracurriculars: Dance Company, Student Choreography for Dance Showcase, Founder/Co-President of Kosher Club (Jewish student organization), Special Fair (County fair for kids with disabilities), Ukulele, Primary/General Elections Volunteer Precinct Official, Young Democrats Club, XTerra Triathalon Volunteer, Senior Leadership Day Committee Head/Group Leader, Worked in an Art/Jewelry Gallery, Theater, Selected Student Playwright for One Acts Play Festival

I guess my hook is that I’m from Hawaii. I’ve been told by many people (several who attend Vandy) that that’s a huge plus.

Jewish Hawaiian!? Thats quite awesome!

I wouldnt think they would make such an issue out of having one “missing” rec, but I guess it would be at your admissions counselor’s discretion.
So you never got anything from Vandy regarding your status since you applied?

Haha, thanks!
It turns out my counselor is the Dean of Admissions (since I guess nobody applies from Hawaii, its not a whole lot of extra work for him), so I’ve been corresponding with his assistant or secretary or something. I sent him an email back in March to ask if I had anything missing, and she responded and said I could contact her at any time. She’s the one I emailed today. But besides that and the email I got a few weeks ago saying the rec was missing, that’s all I’ve heard from them, other than a letter about financial aid and a viewbook in the mail.

Hmm it’s strange that they wouldn’t give you a decision based on what they had. Well, I hope it all turns out well. Good luck!

I have a quick question, I do not attend Vanderbilt but a friend of mine (non college confidential user) is attempting to transfer to CAS. She’s still waiting on her acceptance.

However, recently she found out about (what I believe is called) Human and Organizational Development (?) but was upset since it’s in the Peabody College.

I suppose her question now is can she double major in HOD/Poli Sci? Or w/e other major she may want from CAS?

I appreciate any responses as she eagerly awaits her acceptance!
