Vanderbilt Waitlist for Fall 2024

they may be full :frowning: i sent my AO a message and she replied that they would continue until the class is full so maybe it is now

I’ll be interested to have a look at the eventual CDS for this year because I think there is a good chance Vanderbilt will have to change their Waitlist Spiel. Across their website and in the 'waitlisted webinar" they are keen to tout how being waitlisted at Vanderbilt isn’t a soft rejection like it is at other schools because at least 10% of their class every year is pulled from the waitlist. However there is a good chance the new Opportunity Vanderbilt has increased their yield enough that they just don’t have 160+ spots to fill every year anymore.

That is a good point, and I’ll be curious to see that data too. The only thing I could think of that would still balance the yield so that they do maintain roughly 10% of their class being from the waitlist… would be the fact that a lot of top-tier/Ivey League or Ivey Adjacent schools (which are the schools Vanderbilt would realistically compete with as a student decides where to attend) also meet the 100% need-based policy that Vanderbilt Opportunity ensures. So, I could potentially see some things balancing out as some accepted students frankly do continue to choose elsewhere other than Vanderbilt… but that’s still an interesting point and I do wonder how it may have adversely affected the waitlist scenarios.

I wonder if anyone has tried contacting them. But right now I think the answer we might get would be something like ‘we are rounding up the number, please be patient’ or ‘we will stop getting ppl off the waitlist if the class if full’.

True but I think what Vanderbilt was excited to share about Opportunity Vanderbilt though is that it no longer includes loans.

Agreed :frowning:

They can’t round up the number, I don’t think. The freshman class is a fixed number because of the freshman community.

Agree. But for now I can’t stop thinking about this as a potential explanation for the delay of the third wave: because other schools are also releasing people off the waitlist, that means applicants already enrolled at Vanderbilt but still seeking opportunities to, for example, harvard or brown, might eventually forfeit their enrollment. And this needs to be re-access by the admissions office.

You might be seeing a lot less of this movement this year with all the crazy at the ivies. Older kid at one ivy (loves it completely but wasn’t winning over the younger sibling) and this one who got off the Vanderbilt waitlist and begged to have that happen was accepted at a couple ivies too. Passed on that for Vanderbilt. Nashville was very calm after a weekend up north and not everyone is awed by the big dogs anymore. It’s about fit and finding your place and happy two of mine have done that by being true to themselves. If Vanderbilt is where your heart is then by all means tell them that. Might not work out but no regrets was this kids approach and it worked. Whew. Good luck everyone and the truth is you’ll love college wherever you land if you just let yourself believe that you are where you belong.

I just called the office. They have not closed the waitlist yet and still plan to admit students. I didn’t get more details than that. When it is closed they will send a letter.

Thank you

Thank you! I was also wondering if they gave an extension on commitment date for FAFSA like other schools did. That would delay waitlist movement.

Didn’t hear about any activity/email so far this week. This waiting game is frustrating.

I wonder if they are done for 2024. It almost 3 weeks since we have received any communication from them.

If so, hopefully they let everyone know soon.

I think the waitlist process has been done. All the admitted freshmen are already applying for classes and making their schedules.

S24 is registering this week, but my understanding is there are two later windows for freshmen to register—it’s not all this week.

So I don’t know if the WL is done or not, but I think there will be later opportunities to register for classes.

I sent an email to Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Vanderbilt. Following is the response:
"Thank you for contacting the University! The waitlist process for 2024 is still ongoing. You can submit the letter of continued interest via your portal. "
