NPR and Washington Post report that ISIS claims the shooter is a Muslim convert. Based upon previous dubious statements from ISIS, this contention is likely bogus as well as outrageous.
The woman the shooter was with is an Indonesian Australian. Considering Indonesia is a islamic country… very possible that he was converted

In elementary school, we were doing shooter drills. This is completely normal, at least to my generation and below.

I am extremely skeptical of an ISIS connection. My first guesses would be that he lost all his money gambling, his girlfirend left him, or he had been diagnosed with a terminal disease, he had a brain tumor, something like that. He clearly planned this out carefully, choosing a room with a view of a crowded concert. He had been in the hotel for several days.
The gunman fits the profile of someone depressed and suicidal much more than he fits the profile of a radical Islamist terrorist. I wonder if drugs or alcohol were involved.
I just shake my head at what’s going on. It’s sickening and infuriating, but how do we prevent these things from happening given our political climate.

Everything about his motivations is pure speculation at this point. No point in jumping to conclusions that have no basis in fact. Best to wait until more info is available.
News conference is going on now. FBI says there is no evidence that the shooter was connected with ISIS or foreign terrorism.

@newHSmom it has been repeatedly stated that this woman has some connection to the shooter but it is not known whether it was room mate, friend, girlfriend, etc.
What is known is she was not in the country and at this time law enforcement does not have evidence that she had involvement in the shooting.
Anything else is speculation.
If you are repeating speculation about this person, you may be ruining her life over something she had no knowledge or participation in. It is best to wait for investigators to release information. There are internet people making up stuff all over right now. Let’s not give them power and encouragement.
