Vegas shooting, 50 dead

Look at Australia for an example of a country which had similar issues and wasn’t okay with it and actually pulled up their big girl panties and did something about it.

Just skimmed through, and appalled to see that there was already an attempt to make this about Muslims. Even though most of the time, it’s reg’lar old white guys doing the shooting and killing.

Just terrible in every possible way. :frowning:

Is this the attempt to make it about Muslims you are referring to?

Maybe the claim is false, but it did originate with ISIS.

No, something in this thread.

But really, we take our facts from ISIS now?

“Even though most of the time, it’s reg’lar old white guys doing the shooting and killing” is this a fact?

If the shooter was not an ISIS recruit, it’s surprising that Amaq said he was. That’s not their typical behavior.

On the other hand, nobody has produced any evidence that he was an ISIS recruit other than the Amaq claim. Islam prohibits gambling; the shooter was a Las Vegas habitue who reportedly loved to gamble.

I’ll trust Reuters and other sources that it is a fact that ISIS made the claim. If you think I took the claim at face value you didn’t finish reading the post.

A lot of claims and statements have been made, and since the people posting here weren’t in the crowd last night and aren’t on the investigative team, we’re sorting through them. Just pointing out that the claim didn’t originate with the poster on this board, it originated with ISIS. Which I think is a Muslim group. So I hear.

@newhsmom yes. White men commit the majority of mass shootings.

Also, ISIS claims a lot of attacks that they have no connection to… and they take pleasure in others being fooled.

Yes. I understand why ISIS wants to make everything bad that happens into a Muslim jihad thing. But I don’t understand why so many non-Muslim American adults want to assist in that effort.

If that was aimed at me, why? I accept that Amaq said the guy was an ISIS recruit. Either he was one, or he wasn’t. If he wasn’t, it’s surprising that Amaq said he was, because usually when they claim an attack, later investigation proves them correct.

@romanigypsyeyes that’s all the data points you based on? no more words.

Actually, rom, ISIS does not claim a lot of attacks they have no connection with.

ISIS is to Muslims as KKK or Christian Identity is to Christians. They like to say they are the true representatives of their religions, but they aren’t.

The shooter is reported to be a retired accountant who liked to gamble. His brother said that the shooter was not religious at all and had not changed his religiosity over the past few months…despite what ISIS claims.

CF I’ll try and find the link for the story I read after the last attack about false claims. My quick googling is only bringing up this attack so I’ll find it after work.

ETA the AP talks a bit about it here

I live in Las Vegas. Shock, sadness and anger are all mixed up into a horrible feeling hanging over the city.

I know people among the concert-goers, event staff, first responders, disaster volunteers, and ER staffs. Their stories are simply horrifying.

I am just heartbroken for all the people that lost their lives and their families. I can’t read all the stuff that is out there as it is just too horrible.

I feel this way too.

But nearly 600 dead and wounded. That can’t even sink in. Some people from H’s work were there, but are accounted for and safe.

Las Vegas is not a gun-free zone. Local gun restrictions are illegal in Nevada.
