That stinks! But I did check (because I’m eligible for the “new every two”, but not until late spring) - and here’s what I found:

<<As of Jan. 16, the company will no longer offer the credit to new customers and won’t re-enroll current customers after their next Every Two upgrade.

See full article from DailyFinance: [Amid iPhone Hype, Verizon Quietly Ending ‘New Every Two’ Program - DailyFinance](http://srph.it/gR8MUZ) >>

So, the way I read this, I will get that one last “new every two”, but any new Verizon customers won’t. Correct?

yes that is the way I read it too, but since that is a big part of customer loyalty, I wonder if they will actually dump it, seems their real income would come from customers getting roped into extending their contracts, not in getting them a " deal" to purchasing a new phone.

Yeah, that would be a big deal to a lot of customers to lose “new every 2” - and also a “haha” on "Verizon Quietly Ending "new every two"program - I don’t think their customers will keep it “quiet”!

My guess is you can still get a new phone at the new contract negotiated price after 2 years if you extend your contract, you just don’t get the extra money off it. currently on verizon when you are eligible for a new phone it’s even cheaper (up to 100 less) then a brand new customer coming to verizon.

So, is anyone setting their alarm clock for 3 a.m. to go online to order the Verizon iPhone Feb. 3? I have been going back and forth with myself on this one, but I have decided to wait for the iPhone 5. I figure, I’ve waited this long, I can hold on a bit longer. Also, maybe all the kinks will be worked out by the summer.

I am planning to get up at 2 a.m. and try to order my son an iPhone. He was promised one for his 21st birthday, which has already passed so I said I’d give it a try. He is currently on our family plan at a cost of $9.99 for the voice part, does anyone know if he can continue at that price on that phone? And is the unlimited texting the same? His data plan now is $9.99 also and it looks like he’ll have to upgrade that. One article I read said $29.99 and another article I read said unlimited might be as high as $120? Yikes. Does anybody know? It looks like Verizon doesn’t actually know. I also need to transfer the 2 year upgrade from my husband to him. If I can’t manage that, can I just buy it under my husband’s number and transfer the phone to his number after I get it? I tried to transfer the upgrade already but you can’t transfer it without buying a phone.

Sorry for all the questions but it seems like this forum always has someone who knows the answers.

Izzie, you’ll need to purchase a data plan … last I check it was $$ tbd. Yeah, kinda scary – but the word on the street is that it will be competitive w/ at&t.

You can use the upgrade for any line on your account and activate to another. They used to charge for that, but don’t anymore. If you’re upgrading your “primary” line and eligible for “new every two” you can use the $50 credit on the iPhone. In fact, my “new every two” date isn’t until the end of the month but Verizon made it effective now. Do note that customer service will not be open when the preorder starts, so if you want a waiver call now.

Yep, I’m waiting up until midnight to put my order in. I’m an apple gal from the get go (circa 1985) but also married to verizon because of discounts from DH’s company. I’ve been waiting very patiently…

Verizon customer service is experiencing “higher than normal call volume” so I hung up. I’ll just go on at 2 and see what happens. I think even if I have to order the phone (if one is available) under my husband’s number that it can easily be changed to my son’s number. Otherwise my son will have to contact his million contacts and my husband will have to contact his 3 contacts and switch numbers Thanks for the info SoCalGal.

even if you have to order it under your husbands number you can assign that phone to your son online once it comes. You’ll have to buy a data plan for it like people said.

I looked this up for you on verizons website:

Are there minimum service and data pricing requirements when purchasing iPhone 4?

Yes, iPhone customers will need a current Nationwide plan, with an unlimited data package $29.99 or higher (available for a limited time only).

If your 2-year is almost up, it might be worth $50 to wait on hold to get the waiver. Or maybe you already are eligible and it’s a done deal and documented on the FAQs.

I know for sure you can activate to a different number, have done it several times. You do want to use verizon’s backup assistant before activating the new phone so you can transfer existing contacts. Instructions are on the website.

Thanks, fendergirl, that’s what I thought about the number assignment. Will they let me upgrade the data plan when I order the phone, I wonder? Right now he has a small data plan. I don’t want to upgrade the plan now and then have the phone not be available for a while.

Why are you guys saying 2 a.m.? My e-mail says 3 a.m.! Are you getting a head start on me? Since I decided to wait for the iPhone, I’m just joking here.

SoCalGal, my husband’s number says eligible for an upgrade and $100, so that’s the number we’re going to use. Apparently he hasn’t had an upgrade since 2007, I guess because with my last upgrade, I gave him my old phone.

LurkNessMonster, I must be on a special list since I get to go at 2 and SoCalGal gets to go at 12.

There’s no activating until you get the phone, right? I don’t have to back up any contacts at 2 a.m.?

That’s why I’m doing all the work for this phone, my son lives in eastern time and has a big day tomorrow so that would be late for even him. I’m in tomorrow for another snow day so I can stay up all night!

izzy, not sure about upgrading it when you get the phone. are you doing this on the phone with someone? i’m sure they can walk you through it. definitely use back up assistant to do your contacts when you get the phone. you don’t have to do it right now. you need to download the app on both phones - the current one and the i phone - it’s free. it backs up all 3 million contacts off the existing phone to the internet, and then it downloads them all to the new phone for you. It’s nice too because if you’re online and don’t have your phone you can look at your contact directory on their website as well. I use it as my address book.

Nope, the customer service phone lines will not be open when the online ordering opens at 3 EST. Kind of sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen to me. I will not be upset if I can’t get in and have to do it in an orderly fashion at the Verizon store during the day time whenever more phones are available. However, my son and I are similar in that we both like a big scene and having a new gadget so I will give it a try.

The verizon rep I spoke with this afternoon said they were prepared for the preorder onslaught. I’m thinking the wee-in-the-morning timing will discourage some. I usually wait for the 2nd generation, but am hitting this one asap.
