VERSION 1-CR Discussion- Proessor and Caribbean/Creole Passage test

On the Creole/Caribbean passage, what were the questions for the “social criticism” and and “unflattering reaction?”

For the quietude/reverberate answer, what was the question? I remember that as a choice but I think I picked something else. Does anyone remember what they narrowed it down to?

something about movie being quiet/calm at first?
I can’t remember exactly but one other choice was passivity

@obama123: that was the question about why did the author mention the educator’s insane reaction when asked to teach Creole along with another language.

Just remembered one:

Q: What’s another word for Sloppy?
A: Disorderly.
I also considered another answer choice: imprecise. But that doesn’t work, since the original sentence was something like “it was too sloppy.” And “too imprecise” doesn’t make any sense.

@DaveMerc

I remember that question but I think the answer was imprecise. The professor talked about how it was too sloppy and not close enough to the real thing.

Anyone else’s opinion?

But thanks for sharing that one DaveMerc.

the answer was imprecise…there was a link to the passage. If you go back and read it, you will see that is correct.

@justPhysics: I could be wrong!

But here’s sloppy’s definition: Marked by a lack of neatness or order; untidy.
Synonyms: Messy, slipshod, slovenly.

That’s why I thought disorderly fits better. But again, I could be wrong. If I am, that would be the first wrong one. And hopefully the last. I’m really hoping for an 800.

INTERESTING! I just searched CC and the Caribbean passage was experimental back in Nov 2010…here are some of the answers they had then…do any of these ring a bell?

1) Government: more motivated by commercial motives rather than cultural ones
2) why talk about family and language? – To show a paradox set of attitudes
3) their family: flexible and inclusive
4) language: tenacious and dynamic
5) a example of “cultural penetration”: idolization of Hollywood fimls by Japanese teenagers
—need reassesement
6) produced=generated
7) Youngsters idolizing Hollywood celebrities- effect of “cultural penetration” Japanese
8) language is tenacious and dynamic

^ I remember and agree with 1, 2, 3, 4, “needs reassessment”, and again 8.

The Japanese teenagers/Hollywood questions do not ring a bell.

here’s the sentence…“the professor would have been bothered by my use of the word countless-too sloppy, for he believed that the very originsof the universe could be explained in the exact language of numbers…”

imprecise is correct because of “exact” language of numbers

1) Government: more motivated by commercial motives rather than cultural ones
2) why talk about family and language? – To show a paradox set of attitudes
3) their family: flexible and inclusive
4) language: tenacious and dynamic
5) a example of “cultural penetration”: idolization of Hollywood fimls by Japanese teenagers

6) produced=generated

@novelidea: for the invidious influence one i think the question asked how the culture of the creole shifted. in the beginning, since they were a colony, britain had open control over them and then towards the end of the passage, the author talked about the bad influence of us culture from tvs.
i dont really remember the other ones though sorry :(

Thanks for the clarification @coolpillow!
