Hi I’m new to this , but I need help with my daughter. She went to college last yr for social service worker , she did for one yr . She passed everything but decided it’s not for her . That is fine she now is taking personal support work but she complains about the teacher . She has said she can’t learn the way she is teaching . My daughter is smart so it is not that she can’t do the work . My daughter has borderline personality disorder. So for her little things turn into big things . I guess I’m trying to get her to stay with it and try the frist semester anyways . I told her to talk to the teacher but she said it would not help . I just want her to get something out of her life and to be able to afford things and not have to deepened on anyone but herself . So I am so heart broken that she might drop out and I am at wits end on what to do . I want her to get career . I know I can’t make her and I know I should let her make her own mistakes but if I let her do this without fighting for her future I feel like I would her down as a parent. She is 22 so it is not like I can force her to go but I just se her making such a big mistake . Any advise would be great

She may benefit from talking with the academic advisor and career counselor. If she wants to try a different field, she may wish to consider community college and see what programs they offer that may be more "hands on, " which may suit her learning style better. She should also learn when she can withdraw and get a refund if she is not going to take thses courses.

Good luck!

I would sit down with her to come up with a plan as to when she will be moving out and be independent. At age 22 she should have a game plan of how she is going to support herself and what she is going to do with her life. The plan shouldn’t be coming from you. I would give her a message that she will not be living in your house indefinitely.

What is personal support work?
