Virginia Tech Class of 2028 Official Thread

This is the official discussion thread for Virginia Tech Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.

The RD decisions were released today. You can connect with other applications by commenting below or post your decisions in the dedicated thread here: Class of 2028 - Virginia Tech - RESULTS ONLY.

For those waitlisted, use this thread: Class of 2028 - Virginia Tech - Waitlist Discussion

Were all RD released? So far, the only results I’ve seen posted (here and Reddit) are waitlists. Or maybe there is just a small group admitted RD?

The Insta post made it sound like all RD decisions are out.

Ah true! I wasn’t following them there. (Waiting to let my son check for himself…)

Fingers crossed!

Based on reddit posts, 100% waitlist rate so far. Very odd. Maybe today is just the waitlist decisions.

If you want in at VT, you need to apply EA. RD is basically space avaliable only and nearly all majors don’t have space avaliable.

IMO they should probably make that a little more clear in their application materials. “We encourage” is a little bit of a soft pedal of the situation if that’s what they’re doing.

We got an RD acceptance today around 6pm. Architecture program with honors college invitation.

I’m curious - do they publish data on this? From the CDS, I see that they had 25K acceptances, of these 1300 ED. But I haven’t seen the EA figures.

I’m not sure where they publish that. What I was wrote was something my guidance counselor told me when I was prepping my college list.

Does anyone have any insight into the Honors College? Or any of the LLCs? D24 was accepted into the Honors College (she’ll be a business major)…she thinks she’s ready to accept her spot at VT, but I assume we’ll have to make a decision at that time re: HC. She’s also potentially interested in the Entrepreneurial LLC (that could already be full, so could be a mute point). Insights into the LLCs would be appreciated. I think trying to do both maybe a bit aggressive.

FWIW, this is the same advice I heard in info sessions/tours…can’t remember if VT explicitly said it, but UNC certainly did. EA has pretty much become the new “regular decision”. Clearly you can still get in RD (as tarheel demonstrated), but if you’re definitely interested, EA is the way to go.

Many do well in the various LLC’s but the caveat there is that most (all?) require a 2-year commitment to living in that LLC community (in the assigned dorm, on campus), which is nearly impossible to break if your daughter should want to move off campus with friends as a sophomore. For some, that’s a plus because it’s also nearly impossible to get an on-campus room after freshman year unless you’re in an LLC. FWIW, I believe the Entrepreneurial LLC is housed in the new dorm, so the facilities are nice.

She can always give the HC a try and see what she thinks about it (there’s a dorm advantage for the HC too). My finance/RE major was also invited but declined as she is already a double major/degree student and didn’t want to have to worry about any extra classes/work. If you’re a member of the VT parents page on FB you can do a search on the HC and get some other perspectives. I seem to recall that the HC opportunities suited some degree programs more than others, as far as research opportunities, etc.

You were evidently typing as I was sending you a PM…you can ignore that because you answered my question.

So many decisions! She thinks she maybe would like to remain on campus her sophomore year (mainly for the meal plan), but she also doesn’t know what she doesn’t know. But good info to consider. She’s not super interested in the HC dorms - she thinks she wants to be somewhere probably a little more social.

Thanks for the tip about the FB page…I’ll look it up!

No worries! I also responded to your PM

Aren’t flex meal plans available to on and off campus students?

Thanks! Things have changed a lot since I was off campus at Terrace View in the late 90’s. Back then the buses dropped us off in front of Burruss and we seldom crossed the drill field (maybe for an occasional lunch, but that was it). It was a bit too far to come back to eat. I’m guessing there is more off campus housing in closer proximity?
