Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

In the same boat. Does NOT make sense at all.

Last year EA released Feb 17… do we have 3 more weeks to wait?

Who knows? With no ED this year, the timing may be different. It’s good to know the date it came out last year, though. The announcement I want to see is about another slug of acceptances being released.

The VT admissions page currently says Late February for EA decisions this year. Absent any updates directly from VT, that’s all anyone can assume at this point.

The FAQ (First Round of Early Action Admission Offers FAQs | Virginia Tech) for the first round of EA offers in December appears to suggest that there could be other rounds before the end of February, but it is all a guessing game. We just have to wait patiently for the next email notification. Good luck to all!

Since EA acceptances will be sent so close to RD, does that mean they won’t defer? I’m hoping so bec that wouldn’t make any sense

There’s no telling what they’ll do. Deferring EA a month before releasing RD decisions wouldn’t seem to me to be much stranger than how they handled the Dec 21 release of acceptances.

I have no idea what they’ll do this year, but historically it was my understanding that VT only used the defer option for ED applicants. For EA, I believe it was admitted, denied, or waitlist. No defers. This may change with the move away from ED.

As we await decisions, I found this helpful from last year:

That admissions graph tells a fascinating story. Applications surging, yield declining.

any updates by admissions recently?

And yield will go down again this year.

Nothing official from VT since the December email and the FAQ on the admissions website (First Round of Early Action Admission Offers FAQs | Virginia Tech)

With all the changes in admissions this year, yield will probably be affected one way or the other. Over the past few years, VT has over enrolled including last year when yield must have been higher than expected because they didn’t take anyone off the waitlist.

Dont kid yourself… This delay has to do with FAFSA and your ability to pay the tuition. That is what most schools are waiting on. The government needs to do a complete review of the higher education admission process or stop giving federal money to the schools

one of the admission reps told me back in November that they wouldn’t be deferring anyone this year, but honestly who knows at this point

I’ve heard this as well in relation to the FAFSA creating delays. I don’t really understand how they intersect. Pell Grants I get, but the govt <->college relationship with the FAFSA I don’t (we didn’t fill one out).

Do you jeopardize merit-based awards in any way by not submitting a FAFSA at VT or other schools? Thanks.

Makes sense given the short time between EA release and RD.

Curious… do you think having a higher SAI (previously known as EFC) offers a better chance for the student to get in? In theory, higher SAI can afford more? Or is there a different theory with how FAFSA affects admissions? We have heard from all other schools prior to FAFSA even being open so its weird this would cause a delay at VT. Let me know your thoughts as Im curious. I figured FAFSA would only affect aid offers. Thanks.
