Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Virginia has a lot of public information on college admissions. SCHEV posts stats that you can search by locality specifically for VT. It’s much higher than that. VT also posts but I think that data is just in-state/out of state

For the past two years he posted when decisions would be released. On 12/21/23 they released 25% of admits.

I’m seeing a lot of OOS deferrals for schools like Clemson, UofSC, Auburn, PSU etc. assuming VT will be similar since they’re all getting record #’s of applicants.

We were lucky enough to be OOS at UofSC and got accepted today. I think it’s based on curriculum of your classes.

Deferred from USC, we are screwed for VT coming from NOVA :sob::sob:

Congrats! I’m wondering: Is Va Tech traditionally harder to get into than USC? Or has the explosion of applicants to these (more) southern schools equalized it?

I’m REALLY hoping that VT is a little more of a holistic review. Supposedly rigor of classes is more important than GPA as well. Thats the only thing giving us hope!!

Edited to add, according to my Sophomore sorority girl at UTK, “Mom, have you been on tik tok lately? Everyone wants to be at an SEC school. Virginia Tech is not that.” I’m hoping she’s even a little bit right about that but it still seems wildly popular.

VT admission is also highly driven by your choice of major. Engineering is highly selective while business may be an easier admit. I am hoping for more luck in the northern states  DS in at PSU main campus, and safeties (Kentucky, Delaware, Coastal Carolina, ECU) deferred at UofSC and Clemson. Still have VT, Maryland, NC State, OSU, JMU. Strong grades/rigor/EC, but went TO…which I think is why we are seeing the deferrals.

My son got into PSU-UP, and we visited right before VT. Really liked it, but once we found that there’s a $7,800 tuition increase Junior and Senior year for OOS Business/Engineering majors, crossed it off his list.

SEC schools are really fun and social, but I think VT is a little more academically focused. Sure, it doesn’t have the Greek system compared to most ACC, Big Ten or SEC schools, but my son said there’s plenty of things to do and ways to have fun.

Are we past the mark from last year when did the surprise announcement in December? Just wondering if anything will happen in December or wait until Feb?

last year it was the Thursday before Christmas - so we’ve still got 24 hours!

It’s the Thursday before Christmas. Do we have any reason to think they will release a batch today?

I’d love to say they will but, I also feel we might not be reviewed yet since we submitted in late October.

I think VT announced ahead of time that they would release some in December, so we probably would’ve heard already if they are releasing any decisions today.

I’m pretty sure last year they released at 5pm ET and then posted an update afterwards.

It’s been very quiet……wonder if they will or just wait. I did read somewhere that it was maybe 1/15.

Looks like last year’s tweet/X post was made around 3:30 pm (assuming EST) that small portion of decisions would be going out at 5! So we wait….

thanks for finding that info!

I didn’t think about that. My DC waited until after the Open House weekend to submit and there were tons of submissions from their school already.
