Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Many publics have low yields. That is not uncommon.

PSU is under 20%.

Auburn is 24%

UMN 17%

Many publics and privates are far less - even more inexpensive schools.

What drives this - % in and out of state - so costs but some schools are as low out of state as others in.

And how many schools one applies and gets accepted to.

I see a lot of people above saying how many great choices their kids have.

If you have 8 acceptances, your own overall yield is 12.5%. 7 schools zero. 1 school 100%.

Given this is a VT board, of course there will be a bias from this group toward loving VT but it’s a small group vs the overall.

I read that an email should come shortly after decisions are released with instructions to sign up. Nothing yet here.

Hokie Focus is on 4/5 and 4/6 this year
it is two seperate day events right? We have another visit 4/5

Waitlisted-OOS, California. We wish she could submit more info from senior year. I think she applied as a wildlife conservation major. Stats average, but lots of rigor, great extracurricular and outside study related to major. We visited.

By looking on the website it seems to be a morning and afternoon session each day. We also have another visit on the 5th.

It’s the same schedule both days. If you have ever attended an Open House, it’s pretty similar.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully they have great options. Just an fyi - interest (visit) is not used in admission. That’s similar to most (not all) every public.

They’ll send emails and open up registration closer to the dates
honestly, I wouldn’t expect it for a few weeks. You will have an option to chose the day and either AM or PM session. Be advised slots do fill up quickly. Open House could be an alternative if Hokie Focus doesn’t work out for you. But if you have a visit close to those dates, I wouldn’t sweat not making HF. It’s a bit of a whirlwind of a day, and almost impossible to fit everything in. There is alot of interest in seeing the dorms, etc., but with kids living in dorms (i.e. there is not a sample dorm room like alot of schools show you on tours), those tours fill VERY quickly, and honestly, you don’t see much. You might walk through one hallway of one of the older dorms. If you’re interested in HC, their presentation could be useful, but frankly, you can likely set up a session to see them during a visit and/or virtually. I think HF/Open House is best for undecided kids, who get a real feel for the energy on campus.

When you paid your deposit did you see something in your portal noting your payment? I paid my son’s deposit but all that I see is his response to offer of admission but no confirmation of payment

We did not receive confirmation of payment. But it was posted on my credit card.

We paid the deposit and didn’t even get a confirmation notice email. I do recall it showed a waiting payment when we went into application portal now that has disappeared.

I think I read somewhere that the housing fee is $100, but it’s fully refundable until May 1. I don’t think we can sign up for housing yet though, at least we haven’t been able to figure out how.

I know this is repetitive, but is there somewhere online where it’s documented that your deposit is refundable if you decide not to go? Asking because I need to show my child that they still have a choice as we’re still waiting on two RD schools.

I looked and couldn’t find anything. I paid the deposit hoping it’s refundable (just in case she doesn’t want to go there) because it has been the past several years.

You pay the $400 deposit to commit to VT. After your future Hokie completes the housing contract, they are in the queue for housing selection in June (ie even if you pay the deposit today, if your Hokie doesn’t log on to do their housing contract until May 1, or forgets to do it all together, they’re at the back of the line). I remember paying our deposit last year late on Fri, and it was Mon before my Hokie was able to get the log in for her housing contract. But doing the housing contract is what’s important if you want chose housing first
not the deposit. As a side note, if your kid doesn’t have a roommate (mine didn’t and going random worked out great, better than those that found roommates online), if you’re first in line, you’re sort of in a precarious position
you chose a room, and then someone else picks you. I.e. being first in line could have downsides too.

And also just FYI for incoming parents, if you’re an involved parent (who isn’t on this forum )
just get used to NOT getting info from VT. They’re going to send everything to your kid. Your kid will need to stay on top of their emails for deadlines, etc. You’re not going to get any direct info from VT. That’s how they roll

My D25 paid the deposit yesterday. Do you think she can’t sign up for housing yet? And will she get an email about it or does she keep looking on the portal to sign up? Thanks for all this info. It’s very helpful.

She can try
However, I seemed to remember mine waiting for different log-in information after the payment was processed. Don’t be shocked if it takes a few days. And by “sign up for housing” - she’s just going to complete the housing contract. They’ll be notified in June, according to when they signed their housing contract, a time to chose their dorm room.

Thanks! I think I read that the payment has to be confirmed by housing before she can sign up for that or something like that. Which dorm did your child pick?
