Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Is there an additional fee for housing contract, e.g. $100 as suggested above? Should the kid be carrying a voided check for the moment the portal adds housing contract?

Thanks! I think I read that the payment has to be confirmed by housing before she can sign up for that or something like that. Which dorm did your child pick?

Mine is in Main Eggleston, one of the original dorms. That was actually her #1 choice. If you aren’t already a member, join the Virginia Tech Parents group on FB. There is an excel spreadsheet on there that will break down all of the dorms. If you’re not aware, the dorms are priced differently. At least this year, there was a $2500/yr difference between the older dorms and newer ones. We’re paying OOS tuition…that’s basically a scholarship. Plus my kid loved the location - it’s in front of Owens, next to the newly renovated gym, on the drillfield (her room overlooks the drillfield), close to the library & Squires and an easy walk to downtown. Yes, it was hot for a few weeks, but she survived, and even now, they probably have a window open. Dorm life has it’s challenges, but she’s very happy in Egg.

When the housing portal for dorm selection opens up, literally your Hokie will see all rooms available to them across campus. I wasn’t with my Hokie when she picked hers, but she zoned in on Main Egg, and since she didn’t have a roommate, she found rooms that already had a bed taken, and started reading their bios. She found the bio of one girl that sounded good to her, and chose the other bed in that room. They aren’t best friends, but live well together, having far less “roommate drama” than others.

If your kid is set on a specific, newer dorm, the best way to guarantee a room is to join an LLC. Mekari (wellness) in Payne filled up the fastest last year, but frankly, alot of the others seem to have plenty of available space (they sent alot of marketing emails for them). Depending on the LLC, there are some requirements - could be a weekly meeting, class, etc. But that would take the guess work out of the gamble of choosing a dorm when the time slots open up. There is also a “residence college” in Ambler Johnson that is a 2 yr commitment. I would say to give that alot of thought before signing up. A year ago, my kid was thinking “why wouldn’t you want to live on campus longer than a year, you don’t have to cook, have a gym and activities near by” and now, while she’s happy in Egg, she’s looking forward to being off campus and having her own bedroom, showering without flipflops, and having a kitchen, plus washer & dryer. She has a friend that has been trying to get out of her 2 yr RC contract, but they don’t let them out of it easily. What seems to happen is RC Hokies make other friends that are all moving off campus, and they’d like to join them. If you’re in an LLC, you have an option to stay on campus another year. My Hokie has another friend that is going to stay on campus next year with his LLC.

Last year, there wasn’t an addition $100. It was just the $400 enrollment deposit.

Also Cali waitlisted. Guess there’s a lot of them!

OK thanks re: $100, maybe that was some years ago, etc.

I thought they stopped that a few years ago. Did they add it back? It was not an option for my daughter (class of 2027).

Do I have to do summer start if I indicated that I wanted to on the common app?

Curious if you got admitted for summer start. My DS checked the box but was waitlisted.

If you have a possible incoming female engineering student, highly recommend Women’s Preview. It’s an overnight and you can attend Hokie Focus too.

Does VT defer or is it accept, waitlist or reject?

Have not heard anyone get rejected yet at least here. But many waitlisted. Assuming it depends on major for people waitlisted. I can imagine a lot of engineering people may get waitlisted. Though we know someone who applied to VT got accepted for engineering that has no intention of going. They are looking at IVY’s but they had common app waiver so it seems they applied to like 30 schools and want a full ride. Well I can imagine VT does not give many if at all any full rides on Merit.

I got in to tech but just wondering if the summer start is binding

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing this. So helpful!!!

Will they be able to pull people off the waitlist this year …?:eyes:

I saw rejections on IG post.

Does your offer letter list a start date? Reach out to Admissions and get clarification.

If you post your results there, it will be a LOT easier for future prospective students to find the information without having to sort through 1000+ comments.

We had something on the landing page that said “thank you for noting your interest in summer start”, but the decision letter said " I am excited to inform you that you have been offered admission to Virginia Tech in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics as a First-Year student for the Fall 2025 term."

Anyone know easiest major to get accepted???

Maybe they thought you applied as a safety. Protecting their yield.
