Virginia Tech Fall 2015 Transfer

My app still isn’t updated with any decision

Reviewing the transfer thread from last year, looks like after the initial wave or two in early March, there wasn’t any decisions posted until they all were released the last Friday in April. I’m sure they’ve been really busy anyway the last couple weeks with the freshman decisions which are all being released this Friday.

i know they are releasing all freshman decisions tomorrow but are they also releasing some transfer decisions as well? because i just go an email from finaid asking for required documents and i so badly wana take it as a good sign

Who here was asked to send in midterm grades and who here were not asked?

Been following this topic for a while, just now decided to register to post. I’m trying to transfer to Virginia Tech from a 4-year private college (in state). My stats:

High School GPA/Grad Year: 3.93/2011
ACT Score: 34 (I know they don’t look at it)
Anticipated College GPA: 3.59 (3.75 major)
Anticipated College Credits: 120 (yes, really)
Intended Major: Accounting & Information Systems (Pamplin)
Strengths: Only two C’s and one D, none in courses that would transfer. Even had straight A’s from Summer 2013 through Summer 2014.
Weaknesses: Only had one unit of science with lab in high school, and one semester of science without lab in college. Most of the Pamplin-specific requirements, like intro accounting, either were not required at my previous college, or will not transfer.

I have not been asked to provide any supplemental information or midterm grades. I did get accepted to James Madison University in early March, but I really want to go to Virginia Tech, so the JMU offer is still in limbo. No word yet from VT.

I’m not sure if this will help anyone or not, but I was accepted to the College of Engineering which is more competitive than the other colleges. I’m currently a freshman at a 4-year, My stats are:
High School GPA: 3.68
College GPA: 4.0
College Credits Fall/Anticipated Spring: 17/18
Other random things: 30 ACT, Eagle Scout, 200+ Volunteer hours, 4 clubs in high school, 3 clubs in college. 4.0 from Sophmore year-Senior of High school, Waitlisted (then ultimately denied) last year as an incoming freshman

@bwoods96‌ I’m actually surprised you were waitlisted/denied as a freshman applicant; the College of Engineering must be far more competitive than the overall university. Were you accepted on March 6, or since then?

@PhilipFu It’s far more competitive, it ranks in the top 25 in the nation and #15 for my specific major. I was accepted on March 6 (Which is weird because I applied the day before the deadline)

@bwoods96 yep I’m sure if you had applied last year to any non-engineering school at VT you would have been accepted with your stats. I think another poster in this thread got accepted on March 6 as well, I think he had a 4.0 in college too. So maybe the 4.0 kids get the early acceptances…so @bwoods96 when do you have to let them know your decision by? You think you’ll stay at VCU or transfer to VT?

@ccawealthofinfo‌ It was my theory as well that the early acceptances went to the students with the very highest stats. Either that or all the early acceptances were for a specific major or department and we just didn’t notice that.

Has anybody ever heard of Virginia Tech doing conditional acceptance with transfers? Like, “You are accepted, but only if you take XYZ Class elsewhere before you arrive” or “You are accepted, but you must take and pass XYZ Class in your first term of enrollment (or before the beginning of ABC term)” or “We will only accept you if you pick a different major because you haven’t yet met specific requirements for the one you requested”? Or do only freshmen get those kinds of answers, and transfers just get an unqualified yes/no?

@ccawealthofinfo I forgot to mention that I was accepted to the School of Business last year as you have to choose a secondary major to restricted majors, But I turned it down. You have nothing to worry about, you will definitely be accepted. You have to accept the transfer offer by June 1, but I went ahead and already paid the deposit and everything.

@PhilipFu The early acceptances could be just about anything, I personally think it would make more sense by major or region (I’m from a very very small region). I know for engineering (as it is a restricted major) you have to choose a secondary major in case you are denied, but I am not sure if this is true for the regular schools. And I have never heard of them accepting you on a condition, but they can revoke your admission offer if you get a C in a major-required course or your GPA drops significantly after being accepted

I am applying as a sophomore and this is my first year in an OOS community college, i went straight from highschool, and didnt take a lot of transferable credits my first semester but i got a 4.0, my upcoming spring semester includes 14 transferable and 17 total credits, and i still haven’t heard anything back.

Also a friend of mine got in with a 3.67 gpa in his first semester of college, with a 3.1 highschool weighted gpa, we are both biology majors but he found out that first week of march and i still havent heard

So I was emailed in January asking for me to make a schedule change for Spring by adding Chemistry and that if I added Chemistry I would be considered as a “competitive applicant” since Chemistry is required for admission to the College of Engineering. I replied back that I did add Chemistry and sent an updated list of my Spring coursework and I have still yet to received a decision. I don’t know why I didn’t get a decision yet despite submitting my application late December and transcript received on Jan.15 but I got a 3.67 GPA and 8 of my 9 courses transfer over to VT.

I had to submit my mid-semester grades to VT. I had a Guaranteed Admissions Contract that said I would be guaranteed admission into General Engineering after freshman year if I got at least B’s by my mid semester spring grades(which I have achieved). I too submitted my application back in December.

When I submitted my grades, they said that the rest of the transfer decisions were going to be released May 1st. However, Im assuming that they might get released early because the freshman decisions were released early.

Also, if anyone is looking for a roommate for an apartment down at VT starting Fall 2015, shoot me a message!

So it looks like we will be seeing decisions starting next week and the week after that!

@transfervt4evr‌ Where did you hear that? From VT officially, or is it just hearsay? Wondering because @ghas21‌ said just above you that he was told the rest of the decisions would be released on the deadline, Friday May 1.

@transfervt4evr‌ @PhilipFu‌ As I mentioned a couple weeks ago on this thread, reviewing the transfer thread from last year, looks like after the initial wave or two in early March, there wasn’t any decisions posted until they all were released the last Friday in April. I think “officially” they say by May 1st, but typically they release decisions on a Friday, so that would mean April 24th this year.

@ccawealthofinfo Actually, May 1 is a Friday itself this year. So they might actually not release any more until May 1. I was just curious if @transfervt4evr had been told otherwise by an official source (i.e., the admissions office). It would not be the first thing they’re doing differently this year.

I would be very surprised if they only released 50 (or however many they released) the first week of march then wait all the way till May 1 to release the rest. Freshman decisions came out 2-3 weeks early, I would expect the rest of you guys to hear before May 1, however admissions can be pretty weird with stuff like this
