Virtual BS Expo

Did any of you “attend” this? Impressions?

Yes, and I`m looking forward to the next session. :)

Visited the expo this afternoon.

Found it rather frustrating. Of the many schools listed as participating, I was able to find that only a few of the schools I was interested in actually had staff (and students) available to participate in live chats. Some just had a video playing, and no one available to talk. Granted the expo lasted for six hours. It’s entirely possible that the other schools were represented at the expo either earlier or later than when I checked their virtual “booths.” That being the case, it would have been helpful to have an advance schedule saying which schools would be available when. Alternatively, at the very least, it would have been nice if the schools could have hung out a sign saying “Sorry, gone for the day” or “Back in 5 minutes” or whatever.

Also, when I was in a chat, I found myself constantly interrupted by alerts regarding schools I had no interest in.

Nonetheless, the expo gave me the chance to have one-on-one conversations with admissions officers who might otherwise not be readily available during this busy time of year. If you have the choice, I’d certainly recommend a live school fair over the virtual one. But if you can’t make it to a live fair, then you can check this out when it comes around again in early December.

Note: Most of the schools participating are NOT the most popular New England schools - other than Exeter, which was there today! Lots of schools from other regions, though. So if you’re interested in smaller schools or schools in other parts of the country, might be worth taking a look.

I attend the expo but, I was only able to chat with one admissions officer. It was a conversation worth having and I’m glad I attended the expo but, the in-person fair I went to was a lot more informative.
