Virtual Skype call

Trying to lighten things up ?

Let’s say we are going on a virtual Skype call. What are you wearing? What’s the weather like where you are?

Me. I decided to get my walk in, so I’m dressed for that.

It’s 31 degrees and snowing lightly. But looks like it’s not sticking so I’m grateful for that.

Fleece lined tights black

Black cherry tank and 1/2 zip top

Packable down coat, hat and gloves. Running shoes

Decided to put in my contacts for the first time this week. No makeup.

Also what’s the background noise like?

Quiet here, I have a long list of podcasts to get through. Right now, I’m hearing why Tom Brady is leaving the Patriots.

Thankful for all who are still doing podcasts to give me something to listen to.

What about you?

I wore my regular at home clothes during FaceTime lunch yesterday and happy hour day before.

Not wearing any makeup either. Don’t want to touch my face. I am slathering on the moisturizer.

I have either TV on (Hgtv etc.) or music. I save my pods for bath time and falling asleep.

Was in the high 40’s yesterday and today in the 50’s and sunny.

I wore yoga pants, top, hoodie under my fleece jacket to walk the dog.

D is planning on dressing as she would for school and keeping to her normal schedule.

H is NOT planning on dressing like he’s going for work. Said he’s looking forward to wearing baseball caps, sweatshirts, and pj bottoms ; )

I have no video conferencing…still training for a job I may or may not have so I’m in workout clothes ; )

DH is having a virtual meeting in the bedroom.

I came home from meeting a contractor about a driveway drain. We were outside and didn’t need to get close.

I’m wearing a black t-shirt and sweater and jeans. Usual garb. No makeup.

It’s a beautiful day out there. I plan to go for a walk around the local pond at some point. Will also do a work out in the basement gym and get some watercolor/chinese ink painting in.

Went for a walk with H and the Hounds this morning, it was in the high 20’s so bundled up, and still havent changed into “regular clothes” yet.

So I’ve got on a sports bra, 3 layers of tops (underarmor, a fleece long sleeve, and a warmer half-zip), yoga pants with wind pants over them…warm socks and my Northface hiking shoes.

No makeup so NO video calls that’s for sure! Actually my company has asked us to use audio-only calls to save on network useage.

I taught my best friend (she’s 10 years older than me) how to Facetime Monday - long distance. We had some great belly laughs talking about “make sure before you answer that you’re dressed” and “look, if you hold the phone over your head and look up you look 10 years younger!” She’d been recuperating from having a knee replacement so hadn’t had a chance to see my spruced up kitchen in person, so I walked her around it and showed her. I also showed her all my office equipment that’s now taken over my dining room table. I think it helped her to see, rather than imagine. And of course the laughs really (REALLY!) helped. I showed her how to look in her phone to see who she could Facetime with and it turns out all her siblings and most nieces and nephews including the one with a brand new baby, so she can “visit” with family.

As for what “I” was wearing, it was a “workday” (albeit from home) so I was in “casual Friday” jeans, sweater, and slippers (not a usual thing for work, but hey, I was home!).

I’ve been a WFH person professionally for, hmm, as long as D’s been alive, so - 31 years, though various super time-consuming volunteer roles have often had me dressed up and spending lots of time elsewhere. That part of life is on hold now, but otherwise it’s very, very much business as usual for me.
That means I got up early, had some time with the weights and the rower (and the tv, believe me it’s not all virtue here), cooled down with the newspaper, showered, and dressed pretty normally, including the regular level of (VERY light) makeup. So today that means that by the time @deb922 got us on this call, I’m in jeans, a stripey shirt, and a decent sweater, with earrings/watch/everything except shoes, which we don’t wear inside our house.
Two cats sleeping nearby, and the third, who DOES come check on video calls, seems to be keeping S2 company in his bedroom. He’s among the lost-senior-year kids, but he’s not back in virtual school yet, as they’re still on scheduled spring break.
H is downstairs, also dressed for a reasonably normal day, on his third conference call of the day.
It’s gorgeous outside, so there will definitely be walks later.
Nice to check in!

I am at work - oh so VERY thankful to have a steady paying job. I do not mind coming in at all and have a rare smile on my face and a pep in my step. I’m employed! I’m wearing gray & black stretchy plaid pants, a purple long sleeved cotton t-shirt with a black Target fleece sweater to keep warm in our cold office. My space heater is going and yes, it is warm outside. Just not in here.

I went to the gym that was supposed to open at 5am. I start at 4:30 running usually, so that wasn’t a problem. But when it wasn’t open by 5:20 I went to the door and saw the closed indefinitely sign. I ran 30 min more and then proceeded to do a workout that didn’t require weights - just stretchy bands that I have with me - on the sidewalk outside. Yeah, I’m a weirdo, but I would rather do it there than at home with H puttering around. We will clean up the shed and set that up for lifting workouts.

It’s very quiet in here at the moment, but that’s because most of my co-workers work out in the field. When they are here , it’s non-stop laughter and joking. The rest of us office peeps are quiet nerds. We just type away on our computers.

and in the bummer news, I just fielded a call from older S who is in an apartment in his college town. His roommate has a fever and has been sleeping since yesterday afternoon. They called the health clinic and there’s nowhere nearby to test, so now they are in self-quarantine. I’m not sure what they should do. It could be the flu. One of our divisions was out 2 weeks ago and a whole fire station crew had it this week. I asked about him possibly getting tested for that, but I have not yet heard back. S feels fine and not prone to panicking, and their fridge and pantry is stocked. and he has plenty of tylenol and dayquil/nyquil.

This is a funny thread! My first thought was, “Skype is already virtual” but I see what you mean now.

I’m a dinosaur. Explain, please.

Both retired so no work video conferencing, but we have done Google Duo video calls with son. Mainly I try to remember to wear a bra under my shirt so I don’t shock him ;).

I want to suggest to a small group of friends that we try a virtual happy hour but not sure which is best for suggesting they download - several dinosaurs in the group. Zoom? Google Hangout? Google Duo? Other? What would be best for a group of senior ladies?

Thanks for letting me visualize all of my friends here on our call!

@Marilyn, the simplest thing might just be a google hangout. As long as one person in the group can manage doing the invitations, they should all be able to hit “answer”?

@Marilyn, I’m having a virtual happy hour at 5:30 on Friday with 10 friends. One friend sent a zoom invitation. We all were told to create a zoom account before then which I did. Since everyone already has google, I have no idea why/if zoom might be better but I thought I’d share.

@HarrietMWelsch , @collage1 - thanks, I think I’ll try Zoom; I understand the free service allows group video calls up to 40 minutes.

Let us know how it goes!

I’m still wearing my running stuff from my walk this morning since all hell broke loose with work as soon as I got back. Running pants, long sleeved tech shirt and a fleece vest. No makeup. Yellow running shoes. I have a Zoom meeting at 6 pm from my daughter’s church where she (priest) will be leading evening prayer for Lent by Zoom meeting.

I had a Zoom work call this morning with one other person who I hadn’t met before. I am working out of a now spare bedroom. Then I was wearing a tshirt and nice quarter zip - he was still in an office and I didn’t really note what he was wearing!

If you were on a call with me now, you’d see that I’m in a room with lots of windows to the side of me - a spare bedroom that was built to be like a “sleeping porch” - thus all the windows. Outside you would see “brown” grass but no snow and at the moment it is starting to rain! Right now my hair is tussled and I’m wearing a different quarter zip and tshirt because I went for a run a bit ago. I’ll wash up soon.

My H is downstairs and is honestly driving me a bit crazy because he has made a couple of phone calls and he insists on talking on speaker phone - and he has a LOUD voice - love you H, but SUPER annoying! So if I was on a virtual call I’d need to tell him to back off on the speaker phone!!!

Also, down the hall from me in my bedroom I just realized there is a Costco 60 pack of Reese’s PB Chocolate Eggs - should we break into it for the call?!!

Reese’s peanut butter eggs are my favorite candy!

Considering the technical ability of the participants, my Zoom happy hour went relatively well. We’re a group of about a dozen women who do water aerobics in the summer and an occasional social get together the rest of the year. Some of us are closer friends in smaller groupings.

Two women couldn’t make the meeting, and one couldn’t figure out how to get on (I’ll practice with her tomorrow). The other nine of us managed the meeting although it took about 15 minutes for all participants to get both audio and video working. And the call cut off after the maximum free time was reached. But everyone was very happy to be able to see and briefly connect; several of them are single women who live alone. We’ll be doing it again regularly.

I brushed my hair, put on some foundation to cover blotches, and wore a nice shirt. And made the bed in the background.
