Vocabulary Quizzes

Hey guys I need some help on how I can study well for my vocabulary quizzes that my teacher gives. I would like to know what your approach would be. For my vocabulary quizzes, my teacher gives us a list of SAT words to study and then on the quiz he pulls newspaper articles from online which uses the words and he wants us to fill in the blanks with the appropiate word. I find that I could know the definition of the words and I think that I know how it’s used but however during the quiz I don’t find it quite easy. I don’t do as well as I want to. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions anybody?

parts of speech is what you need to know.
If the words I have for you are cat, run, nice

then look at a sentence like this
The_______ ran up the tree.

The above sentence needs a noun, therefore the word I use is cat.

Let’s say that my words are

Uncouth
Ostentatious
jargon

then in a sentence like

The twins ______ behaviour was abhorred.
the word would be uncouth.

What your teacher is testing you on is the usage of parts of speech. Remember the definitions as well as the POS. That is what you need.

Well I know the parts of speech as well. But sometimes he gives us whole paragraphs from newspaper articles, so sometimes I would have to understand the paragraph first in order to fill in the bank. Then it can get confusing from there with understanding what word would best fit into the paragraph. Thanks for the help though.

How many blanks are in an article?
Here’s the thing. Take one sentence and work on it.
Although there may eb 30 sentences, only take one and deal with it. There should be enough things in that one sentence that will ehlp you figure it out.

Ok thanks for the tip.
