A friend of mine just told my friend group (we’re all rising seniors, class of 2014) that he was offered a full scholarship to the University of Houston, and he said they left a voicemail at his house. He said he’s never contacted the school. Our PSAT scores were only a point apart, and I know my SAT score was higher, and they wouldn’t have any other information yet because applications haven’t started. My parents and I are skeptical about a college leaving a voicemail out of the blue to offer a full ride without any form of application. It’s also weird that they would offer it with no contact by him.

Do colleges really offer full scholarships out of the blue? And over voicemail? Or is he just lying/confused/not telling the whole truth about contacting the school?
